No friggin' suspension is RIDICULOUS. You can say Chara has a clean track record, blah blah blah - ok. Look at this picture at the bottom of this article, and tell me he doesn't know where he's putting him:

http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_d ... nhl-331832

I know the play moves fast, but as a vet in the league, Chara definitely is FULLY aware of where he is. He wanted to hurt Pacs, no doubt about it. Did he want to hurt him as severely as he did? No. Fact of the matter remains though that he DID. You have to take responsibility for your actions, but apparently this bush league thinks otherwise. He got his payback, and then some. I hope you feel good about yourself, Chara... you may have just ruined a 22 year old stud power forwards NHL career. Bravo, and stay classy.

P.S. - I guess it's just going to take someone getting killed for the NHL to take notice... Watching the trainer on the ice last night checking Max Pacs pulse sent shivers down my spine, especially with him not moving... Brutal.

Btw sh00n, it's a C4 and C5 vertebrae... so multiple fractures. Thankfully none were displaced... but he's also got that Grade 3 (severe) concussion to worry about too... I really hope the kid bounces back alright and fully recovers. For himself, not for hockey... hockey is an afterthought at this point.

The hit was very late and Chara was fully aware of where he was on the ice. I'm sure he didn't expect Pacioretty to run into the stanchion, but he could have easily flew into the bench as well. He knew where he was on the ice, he had to have known that something like that could have happened.

darth is on point here, 5-10 is what he should have gotten. By no means did Chara want to injure him, but it was horribly careless and, as I mentioned already, way late.

5-10 games at most.

They have a history; he's been after Patches ever since the OT winner when he got pushed out of the way afterwards. Bertuzzi got 20 when he ended Moore's career. Chara may have just ended Pacioretty's and got absolutely nothing. And as sad as it seems, I'd love to see what would've been handed down if it was PK that laid out Gregory Campbell like that; I'm 100% sure Colin wouldn't be saying that nothing was dirty about it.

You're comparing what Bertuzzi did to that? Come on.

Certainly not as bad as Bertuzzi, but if Pacioretty's career is over because of Chara's recklessness, it's a decent point.

If Pacioretty doesn't play another game, it's the same outcome, isn't it? I'm not saying the hits were the same, I said the outcome would be.

And for anyone who says Chara didn't have intent:

Bertuzzi meant to hurt Moore and there is little doubt of that, while Chara's play was stupid and late. Reckless and malicious are two very different concepts, but I think we are just arguing grammar then.

I'm not sure how comparable they are, they are just two horrible instances

That hit does not happen in every game.

I'm suprised Chara didn't get suspended simply because of how badly Pacioretty, that seems to be the way Colin Campbell does things. The hit was a bit late but I don't think Chara ever intended to hurt Pacioretty like he did.

I hope Pacioretty can recover and return to hockey.

Since this has become the unofficial NHL disciplinary thread...over/under 8.5 games for Cooke on the elbow?

Wow another dirty hit by the Bruins they are the dirtiest team now in the NHL. One thing I find funny living in Toronto is all the talk of the Leafs as a sure fire legit 2nd or 3rd round team  good luck with that. I mean your going to get crushed by Philly if you make it or by better teams in the East. It was a great run for your team and a good morale boost for the kids but lets end this dream.

Wait, they're saying they're a sure fire legit 2nd or 3rd round team now? Maybe they should concentrate on getting to the 8th seed, which at this point is almost impossible.

Bruins need 5 points in 11 games to beat the Leafs.
Pens need 3 points in 10 games.
Lightning need 4 points in 10 games.
Habs need 6 points in 9 games.
Rangers need 11 points in 9 games.
Sabres need 14 points in 10 games.

And that's if the Leafs win the rest of their games.

Well the media in Toronto is the most favored outside maybe NY for Baseball. I mean radio talk shows have been saying the Leafs are legit and James Riemer is a legit top 10 goalie in the league and will carry the team. I think they are a better team then last year and will be possibly next year but no way do they beat Philly in 7, Washington in 7 or Boston in 7 that isn't happening. I think Buffalo takes #8 in the East they have too good of a goalie to miss it now.

Reimer is pretty impressive. He's stopped three Minnesota breakaways in the first 25 minutes tonight.

Man are the Habs in shambles right now... I know it's the end of the season, but get Martin out of here. It's absolutely brutal...

Can't help but feel sorry for Carey Price with the team playing the way they are in front of him.
