Ndamukong Suh see's next season Detroit Lions 16-0

Post#1 » by kellmellus50 » Wed Mar 9, 2011 12:32 pm

My prediction lions will be 10-6 next year if stafford stays healthy big ? and a good 3rd reciever

Quote:I don't see a reason why we can't be 16-0 as long as we put in the hard work throughout camp getting ready for the 2011 season," Suh said in an interview with the NFL Network. "As long as we stay healthy, and are putting in that work, we should be happy with what we end up with."

To say a 16-0 season is unlikely would be a massive understatement. The 2007 New England Patriots are the only team to complete a perfect regular season since the NFL expanded to a 16-game schedule in 1978.

The ten-game, single-season improvement would also be an NFL record, matching the 1999 Indianapolis Colts.

I don't see any reason why we shouldn't be competing for 16-0 with a reasonable chance next year and every year after that if we can go back in time and change all of the clearly inexcusable and illogical GM-related mistakes that we've made that should never have been made. Next year I don't see it, but the year after that or so we can get back on track to potentially being an uber-dominant team if Mayhew is perfect for one or two more offseasons, but that's asking a lot based on his track record that hasn't even been a good job overall, let alone near perfect or genius.

He doesn't even know how to setup drafts in advance, if it was me we wouldnt have 7 picks a year, our future board would look something like only 2-3 picks a year, with all picks in the first round (with all of our 1st round picks then exchanged in advance with another team since we would then be picking dead last every year and profiting from the annual gifts of periodically getting lucky with high draft picks to use or sell and sustain), as it would be a game of controlling and owning substantial power/leverage in the draft and only needing a small quantity of premier players to keep an uber-dominant cycle going for an indefinite period. I don't see Mayhew's logic in how he's going to accomplish anything of the sort though. He's way off track imo and I can't stand it.

Heck, we should be in a position in the future where instead of all this hoopla about collective bargaining agreements going on, there could be the same thing going on where the league and the other 31 teams are annually trying to negotiate new terms with the Detroit Lions to concede portions of the ever-growing stockpile of future draft pick material for cash payments in an attempt to buy out slices of our perpetual dominance. It's so easy to set this up when you have 31 other incompetent GMs that will blindly play right into this hand through sheer stupidity and ignorance.

This isn't a story, LOL. I would hope that every player on every team in the NFL wants to go 16-0. And I would think that most players on teams with talent are confident in their ability. We won't go 16-0, but it is nice to know players expect us to win again. Wasn't always the case in the 2000s.

What would your reaction be if it was Jimmy Clausen that said it?

You were the one begging for the Lions to trade Stafford and draft Jimmy Clausen. Look at how well that turned out.

All you say is, "If it were me, if it were me, if it were me....." but guess what, it wouldn't happen if it were you either! There's a reason why teams don't have 3 first round draft picks every year and no other draft picks.... CUZ IT DON'T HAPPEN! Stop rippin' on Mayhew because NO GM would live up to your standard, so, that actually makes him AT LEAST average (in your eyes), and that's good enough for me cuz you have these crazy stupid ridiculous ideas of how to run a franchise.

As for what Suh said, it's not like he predicted that they will go 16-0. He's simply saying if we put in the work, they have the potential to compete and win against any team in this league.

Yeah I'm crazy cause I want to be the best instead of a losing football team. And what makes you such an expert to know for sure that my ideas are ridiculous? I thought you just said in the other thread that I was the only expert. So let me guess, you are sure you know what you are talking about in claiming that I don't know what I'm talking about and you feel that it is impossible for you to be wrong on that issue?

bartender you wrong in your assesment here's what he said:

(There's no reason we can't be 16-0 as long as we put in that work. ) he said 16-0 end of story it's in black and white don't try and twist it saying he just means that we can win against any team in the league because he did not say that.
you reading your own thoughts into what he is saying and your wrong.

the man taking the interview said this:To say a 16-0 season is unlikely would be a massive understatement .So He also understood it the same way 16-0 bartender your just not seeing and hearing the same thing as everyone else.

"There's no reason we can't be 16-0 as long as we put in that work."

It's not like he said, "We're going 16-0."

This isn't the Jon Kitna prediction that had us going crazy. All he said is the Lions are a talented team. It wasn't a prediction. It was a statement on the kind of talent the Lions have.

To answer your question TSE, my reaction would be the same. Every team in the NFL has talented players, it is why parity is so high. It is why a team like the Falcons can go from putrid to playoffs in one season. So you expect your impact players to want to win as soon as possible. And you want them to be able to look at a schedule and point to each game before the season starts and see it as winnable.

Well yeah, but Suh has apparent guaranteed playing time as a relevant participant, and it's not within Jimmy's control that he gets to play. So if he said it, all I'm saying is well if he puts himself in the position and likes the team and sees confidence, then his rationale would be partly influenced by the fact that he believes in himself as a good player and that CAR is going to add "x" amount of talent with the first round pick at position "y".

If he sees his team as the best pound for pound team in the NFL with him at the helm, then he should have a different valuation in the scenario where instead of bolstering a weak position, that the team is getting less bang for the buck if they select Newton. Meaning, if he sees total perfection with him at the helm plus "x" at a new position, how could he see the sum of that team being worth less than in the other scenario where he is NOT at the helm and "x" does NOT go to another position? He would have to consent to a less than perfect team and that would affect the overall value of the team. Or vice versa, but he can't have it both ways, because at present time he can't know the future for certain, so whether he believes the team is better with a QB in Rd 1 or not with a QB in Rd 1, there is a chance that the team could make a major decision that goes against the one that he clearly believes is the better overall result.

I highly doubt that he would logically conclude that there is absolutely no difference, I just don't see it as plausible or logical that he could form a logical basis for claiming near perfection with his team under BOTH scenarios (although technically he could), and I figured you would account for that with a slightly different perspective than some other player like Suh saying such a thing about a different team with different dynamics at play such as the Lions. So if your reaction is truly the same, then ok, but it just doesn't make sense to me why it would be exactly the same, I'm shocked out of my gord that you see absolutely no difference, but that's fine if you don't. It just seems like there should be at least an ever so slightly difference between the 2 different players of 2 different positions and 2 different roles of 2 different teams, and so I figured I'd ask just to see what you thought.

So I'm just befuddled that your reaction is the same, but ok, thanks for the answer and explanation, and because your response caught me off-guard I found it to be interesting and thought provoking!

That is a fair point, I agree that Clausen probably should win a starting job and show progress before making a boast like that, if he were to make one. But at the same time, it does show confidence, not in just his abilities but also in his teammates. You want a team leader to be able to exude that kind of confidence, and of course to then back it up on the field. As a QB striving to be a starter, Jimmy needs to be a leader, but he clearly is not one. And he sure hasn't shown anything on the field.

I think where my reaction might differ between Suh and Clausen would be when they both started playing games. Anyone can make a statement, it isn't until they start trying to back it up that they can really be criticized IMO.

Yeah I haven't watched him play much last year, but his stats sure aren't flattering lol. There of course are two schools of thought, one being that you let a rookie QB wait a year, and the other where you play them early. And when you have the potential to end up as the suckiest team that could have the number 1 overall pick and a potentially tough choice on deciding between a QB and some other position, then it's the team's responsibility to figure out in advance if they want to gamble with Clausen or not, and they didn't do themselves any favors by not playing him enough to get an even better read on whether or not he's worth that gamble. So is Clausen for sure a leader or not, or for sure good or not? Well we can speculate all we want, but there's no possible way to make any certain determination just based on what he has done so far. He just didn't get enough opportunity for me to have much of an opinion on that issue. All of this Clausen talk does nothing but make me upset that Carolina has put themselves in such an ambiguous situation like the one they are in, that's the real hot topic. Man I would be so bummed right now if I was a CAR fan, they have so many compounding problems and issues that everything is cloudy and messy over there.
