I need a breakdown: Harris Vs. Williams defensively

Post#1 » by BarneyGumble » Thu Mar 10, 2011 6:49 pm

Admittedly I have not watched many games since a while before the big trade as my time is maxed out in other parts of life right now. What I do know is Deron Williams struggled mightily on the defensive end against the smaller, quicker guards of the league. I also know Devin Harris, while more limit offensively than Deron, is much faster.

How has Devin Harris' defense been so far? I imagine he stays in front of the quicker/smaller guards much better than Deron did. I also like Devin's size because he seems big enough to not pose a liability against bigger guards that like to back down their defenders, but I haven't seen enough of him to know if this is the case. Can anyone break down his defense for me? Much appreciated.

Harris isn't really a great defender at all but he is Fisher-esque in his ability to draw charges.

I really haven't seen enough to Harris to know for sure. But, so far not that impressed. He seems to get lost around screens about the same as Williams. I haven't noticed his extra speed having any effect. And I doubt he can guard a guy like Roy like Deron has shown he can.

Not really sure we upgraded any on defense. Seems about the same to me.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

Harris use to be one of the best defensive point guards in the league in his early years but it seems the constant losing with the Nets has gotten him a little soft defensively.

Dwill always had trouble versus quick small PGs but played bigger PGs and SGs pretty well beause he is very strong.

Harris is a better defender versus small quick PGs while Dwill played better D versus the bigger guards of the league. All in all both have the ability, and have played great D in the past, but both are slightly lazy on the defensive end.
Top 4 seed in the West!!! Guaranteed!!!
