"Pryor and four teammates were suspended Thursday by the NCAA for the first five games of next season for selling championship rings, jerseys and awards. They also received improper benefits -- from up to two years ago -- from the tattoo parlor and its owner.
The NCAA did not suspend the players for the Sugar Bowl because they "did not receive adequate rules education during the time period the violations occurred."

CAM NEWTON received no punishment after blatant admission he was being shopped from school to school.
Ostate players receive no punishment, UNTIL NEXT YEAR?!?
now do many of you see what THE SHOW has been talkin about, USC had been targeted, pinpointed and are the focus of a WITCHHUNT by the ncaa. in reggies case, HIS FATHER was improperly found to be delving into getting money for his sons play. in reggies case, we were blamed FOR NOT PROPERLY EDUCATING reggie on similar issues that ohio state has been found guilty on.
and still only a slap on the wrist or next to nothing for their crimes.
this is incredible

Re: SIMPLY INCREDIBLE!
Newton's case is still under investigation.
Give the NCAA 4 years more, and I'm sure he'll be declared ineligible.
The Ohio State thing is mind boggling (BCS=$$$$$$$$$$$$$).

Tressel lost a ton of credibility and respect over this one.

Re: SIMPLY INCREDIBLE!
They all need to go. Blow it all up and start fresh, kick Pryor and the other 4 suspended guys off the team, take a 2-year bowl ban and hope that's enough.
I actually know the car dealer in question, he used to be an account of mine back when I worked in the auto industry. Don't know him well but we've met and done business. If I only knew then...

It's not whether you win or lose, it's how good you look playing the game

Re: SIMPLY INCREDIBLE!
Being a Michigan graduate, I hate Ohio State and love that their program is crumbling and that Tressel is gone, but the real problem isn't with one or two schools, it's with the whole damn system. The real problem is with a sport which defines itself as amateur but yet allows its head coaches to be paid millions of dollars and, in some cases, compensated higher than NFL coaches are.
If the NCAAF wants to claim they are an amateur sport, fine. Set standards on what punishments are for violations and stick to them no matter what. In my opinion, any coach who is found guilty of what Tressel did should be immediately fired and never allowed to coach in the league again. When you are lucky enough to get a chance to make a lot of money coaching, you should be held at higher standards and punished severely for not meeting them. How else can we expect these athletes, who are supposed to be students as well, learn the right values for the real world?
I think in this case, Tressel should have been fired a long time ago. Gee and Smith need to both go as well, they have both acted like buffoons during the process. Ohio State needs to vacate every single game where a player who got extra benefits played in, which very well could be the entire last decade. And the team needs to lose scholorships and bowl bids, more than what USC got. USC's scandal was related to one player. OSU's seems to span over the entire tenure of Tressel.
I'm not saying this because I am a Michigan fan, I'm saying this because right now the NCAA is a joke when it comes to enforcing these rules and everybody knows it. Even USC, which was punished severely by today's standards, is still getting great recruits and maintaining a good program. They need a shakeup like the one the NFL got when Goodell took over, with regards to the conduct policy.

Re: SIMPLY INCREDIBLE!
There should be criminal penalties for these 40-50 year old jock sniffer boosters. They are like drug dealers but are supposedly pillars of the community. If you are a college kid and a guy who owns a big company wants a relationship why wouldn't you wouldn't you consider that the point of college? You don't want to piss off the companies that hire and fire. It wasn't just the NFL hopefuls getting these guys attention.
