I was high on Landry his first season and for good reason, he satisfied a major role as that inside #2 scorer on the team. Then all of a sudden some kid named Demarcus Cousins fell into the Kings' lap making him far less needed and not a real good fit moving forward. Traded up a nice Benz for a Bentley.

I'm not sure it was ever in the plans to start Thornton with Evans. That has never made sense for me. Ever since we started wishing Thornton would come here, I always envisioned Thornton as our Bobby Jackson, Jason Terry, or Jamal Crawford, and that we'd get a pure PG who can hopefully play some D to replace Udrih. Thornton is a SG, Evans is a SG.

The difference is that Thornton and Evans have enough PG skills to where it shouldn't be an issue. Not to mention that we have a young big that clearly has the talent to be the "man" in the offense and with the right system and experience it won't be a question of "if" but "when".

I've been a proponent of putting a bigger combo type next to Evans since day one. I originally wanted somebody bigger than Thornton but with him pretty much dominating every PG other teams have tried to guard him with I quickly realized he'll do just fine. Have to make other teams panic about how to physically stop Tyreke and/or the player playing next to him. It's all right there and it looks like the Kings have a big man that will cause opposing coaches to be asking the same thing about him. That's how this team could become dominant.

In time it may very well be proven that it makes more sense for Thornton to come off the bench, but after mjh79's comments it only gives me even more hope that if used properly, this could indeed be a very good fit. Thornton fits next to Cuz and in theory he fits next to Evans, now of course it's yet to be proven, but if Westphal has any common sense he'll realize that the answers to a lot of the questions he probably asked himself a hundred times this season are right there in front of his face.

It's not just about PG skills. It's about a PG mentality. That's why I'm highly skeptical that they'll be able to fit together. Just because Thornton isn't a terrible ball handler and passer doesn't mean he'll be great next to Tyreke. It's still an offense that lacks a lot of organization due in large part to a lack of a really solid PG.

And that's what the real problem is, once again, if we're talking about the same definition of "PG", it's a player that will take the ball out of the hands of Tyreke, Thornton, and Cousins. Just not a bright idea IMO unless that PG is named Kyrie Irving or Chris Paul.

It's an offense that lacks a lot of organization because the offense has very little organization to begin with. There are more than enough tools there, goes back to system and how to put it all together.

Man, I love thornton but if we do draft Kyrie Irving. I dunno how he fits. I envisioned a three guard rotation of irving-evans-beno. Beno would be good while Irving learns the ropes. Marcus would make a good 6th man but he might just fall out of the rotation unless he can play SF. If only he was a few inches taller...

I like that lineup much more than your suggested lineup. This gives you the best chance to create offensive havoc against teams. Imagine Irving pushing the ball and having guys like Evans and Thornton running with him!

If we draft Irving, that should be the end of the Udrih era. We've seen what Udrih can do and that's his ceiling. He shouldn't be in our future plans.

I want to believe that Thornton and Evans will work together and I look forward to seeing them try. It's just not something I envisioned when we acquired him. If it doesn't work, having as a consolation a new Bobby Jackson, Jamal Crawford, Jason Terry type isn't something I'm complaining about.

I think we should re sign him now. Dude balls and he is out to prove himself. There isnt anything I have seen from Thornton that has made me question the move, or question he can play with Tyreke.

And not to be a party pooper ( i love Tyreke) but what has Evans done in his career to show a franchise he deserves to be pampered and pick n choose they type of players he plays with.. Maybe Reke should expand his game and make it work, cause Thornton can BALL!

BTW only reason ppl jumped off the Landry train was drafting Cousins made him expendable. Im sure if we acquire someone like Gordon, Thornton would become expendable too.
