Really interesting articles and extremely intelligent work by O'Connor. Deron's made little comments in the past that made me think he probably wouldn't stay, especially after they traded away Brewer or whoever his buddy on the team was that he got upset about. I think when you have a coach who's been there for such a ridiculously long time it's not a bad thing to sort of start over when he leaves, and in Utah's case they are in a stronger position than most teams who decide to do that because Deron had so much value. You just have to look at what's happening in Phoenix to see how things could have gone for them if they held onto him too long.

He saw an opportunity and decided to go for it. The Melodrama looser was going to be like a girl looking to rebound after getting dumped by her boyfriend. That moment is a moment of vulnerability.

That's how I saw it too.

It wasn't some sort of great forsight of the Jazz GM, he simply took control of the moment.

Knick fan's, would you guys rather have Dwill than Melo? Personally I think Dwill would have been a better fit for the Knicks.

I'd take Melo over Dwill all day.

As an uninvolved guy I would say talent-wise it's a wash. :dontknow:

You might argue, though, that a lot of solid PG have come into the league lately so the PG position is relatively easy to fix if you're still in need of an acceptable PG. Can't be said that easily for the SF position.

I would take Melo + Billups over Dwill any day..not Melo over Dwill straight up though.

Precisely how I feel too.

It was not simply a Melo vs. DWill trade. Adding Billups to the team is not just a minor aquisition. Billups is still a great player who knows what it takes to win. His leadership is valuable to a team like the Knicks.

Last year's 1st round playoff series disagrees with you.

If the Knicks could have kept gallinari when trading for Dwill than it would be a different story.

A re-signed Melo or a D-Will that could leave the next year?? Hum...

If they were both re-signed, then yeah, maybe Dwill.

The thing is, we had no picks to give, not like Jersey.

Agreed.

Billups has been HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE to Toney Douglas' improved play/regained confidence in a short time.

How so? Deron beat Melo last year without HCA with 2 starters out the entire series.

Well I was pretty certain that this was the case, and I'm happy about the Jazz decision...

Rookie: Favors > Fields (ok this season no, but on potential YES)
PG: Harris > Felton
Extras: Nets + GS picks vs ??

If the Knicks would of parted with Gallo, it could tilt the scale some on the Knicks favor, but that's because we have no idea what the Jazz will get out their picks, but that GS pick is gold if its in the 8-12 range since so many players are opting out of this draft cause of the pottntial lockout.

DWill is better than Melo and it isnt even close. Last years playoffs made that painfully obvious.

And Dwill/Amare is a million times better fit than Melo/Amare
