Re: Jimmer Fredette & Kemba Walker (draft position)
I have a new comparison for Jimmer. He reminds me of Arenas with the Wizards after he came back from injury (pick one, he had many). A big body, slow, non explosive, scoring combo guard that can light it up from deep.

Jimmer's got range, but he's too short and doesn't have the blow-by speed to be a top draft pick in my opinion. There's always a place in this league for shoothers though. He'll make it.

Re: Jimmer Fredette & Kemba Walker (draft position)
So Kemba hit the game winner today beating #3 ranked Pitt. Had 24/5/5
Last 5 games = 26.8ppg / 5.2 rpg / 3.2 apg, 45%fg + 88%ft
Close loss vs Notre Dame, wins vs Gtown and Pitt
Starting to get hot. After watching him play I think he actually has better passing ability than the stats show, the rest of his team just sucks offensively so he does it himself. Will be an interesting mid-late 1st round pick, i could see him getting hot for the tourney and bumping up his draft stock to 15 or better.

Where have you been? He's been doing it all year.

Re: Jimmer Fredette & Kemba Walker (draft position)
Kemba has skills that Jimmer simply can't offer. Specifically an ability to take players off the dribble and create a good open look. Jimmer hits insane shots, and can shoot from anywhere on the floor, but when he is playing against bigger, longer players he will struggle to get good shots. Kemba won't have that problem.

Walker would make a killer guard off the bench for a good team. Incredibly good.
I've seen him uip close for 3 years. He is at worse Bobby Jackson, best? Poor man's Iverson.
Kid is quick and can score. he's unguardable at the NBA. Doesn't have great handle though, better passer than he gets credit for.

His shot went pretty cold for awhile by his standards. Had a stretch of like 6-7 straight 35% or less shooting games where Uconn lost to Louisville, Syracuse and St Johns (all good teams tho). Just sayin' he is getting hot again like he was for the first part of the season.

I agree the ability to take players off the dribble is one skill that is key in the NBA, even moreso than college. I could see Kemba's upside being a Ben Gordon sort of player, 6th man scoring combo guard.

Re: Jimmer Fredette & Kemba Walker (draft position)
I've changed my mind about Kemba in the last few weeks. I thought he was going to just be a volume scorer, but he's been so clutch and his ability to break guys down looks like it will translate.
The last guy that I remember beating teams 1 on 1 like this was Wade in his big tourney.
With a good tourney Kemba could rise into the top 10/top 5.

This is Jonny Flynn all over again. Big spotlight near the end of the year for an undersized, score first PG. Some GM is gonna get hoodwinked.

Re: Jimmer Fredette & Kemba Walker (draft position)
Is he a legit Pg...or could he ever develop into a guy that could run a team given a year or two? He's such a great player, but his value is diminished as an SG because of height...if only he were 5 inches taller, wow.
Looking forward to watching him in the next couple weeks...

Re: Jimmer Fredette & Kemba Walker (draft position)
I'll say what I said on the Knicks board. If the only opinion that you have of Kemba is that he's a "chucker" then you're mistaken. Kemba burdens the load of the offense because no one else can guide the team to a win. Kemba has tremendous court vision and if he were surrounded by better talent I'm sure he wouldn't be so reluctant to pass. He had a better cast of players around him, his first two years at UConn and you saw that he passed more. I'm not so sure why so many of you think his mentality has changed.
With adjustments to his game to compensate for his lack of height, I think Kemba will be a solid contributor to a team. It's sort of hard to picture where he may fall, he's a lotto talent for sure but I wouldn't be surprised if he slipped into the mid 1st.

Re: Jimmer Fredette & Kemba Walker (draft position)
He was chucking for a while when he was taking an absurd amount of deep 3s, but thta's not really his natural game. That said, he's not worth a top 10 pick IMO, he's a mid first type talent. He'll definitely be solid in the NBA, but not great. An Aaron Brooks type of guy. He's just overhyped is all, the Jonny Flynn notion is spot on. Kemba also benefits from the big east having crappy guard play in general compared to other conferences, something that gets swept under the rug somehow.

That's an interesting point (although I don't really know how you would test something like that and I don't even know if it's remotely true). That said, how do you explain his performance against the solid non-conference opponents that he faced?
I can definitely see the Flynn comparisons but Kemba is probably a significantly better shooter.

just watch the teams play. the big east is deep, but none of the teams are among the top 10 best in college basketball IMO. Pitt doesn't have a guard who can dictate the pace, Syracuse still plays Jardine and Triche who have the same problem and have questionable decision making, ND is getting it done with smoke and mirrors, Nova's guards are awful chuckers, etc etc. The number of true NBA quality guards in the big east is minimal for a 16 team conference. You'll see this play out when a bunch of big east teams get knocked out early in the NCAA tournament. I don't really see any final 4 teams in the big east, and I'd be ridiculously surprised if a big east team won the title. But who knows, maybe I'll be proven wrong and some guys will step up under the lights of March.

With the way things are going, it seems like destiny.
Two of the best scorers in the country taking the nation by storm. Both from New York, one a flashy slasher from the Bronx with a lot of heart and clutch play against the shooter and scoring machine from upstate dropping forty point games like it's nothing.
Ratings would be crazy. Also sounds like a good documentary.
