So why doesn't Steve Blake shoot anymore?

Post#1 » by WOX_69 » Fri Mar 11, 2011 5:35 am

We brought in a shooting point guard to shoot and help get the bench offense initiated. Early in the season he was shooting and initiating. And now he only seems to be initiating. And since he doesn't look to shoot teams seem to prepared for him to make the pass whenever he inevitable does.

Why doesn't he shoot anymore? I know there was a stretch when he was shooting that he didn't shoot well, but come on now, a shooter has to shoot, otherwise how are you going to help your team?

Speaking of helping, if I see him sag off his man to offer ineffectual help one more time, dear God I'm going to lose it. He allows so many open shots because he can't not show his help without being able to recovery. In the case of today it lead to the Bibby three that tied the game and the second one that put them up three. No he is not solely responsible for the loss today, but things like this happen all the time.

I really want Mitch to look into signing a guard who can and is willing to shoot. Blake's been a non-factor for months it seems.

We've gotten to the point with Steve Blake where we dont even want him shooting anyway.

If he's not giving anything offensively, then really shouldn't be playing the minutes he does, because he's be even worse defensively. Watching leave his man who then ends up getting an open shot or an open driving is annoying and will hurt us come play off time. It prevents the bench from holding a lead, much less build upon it.

It's at the point where I'd almost prefer to bring Brown off the bench at the point, move Barnes down to the two and have Walton running at the three. At least with Walton you know he'll move the ball effectively and not have these huge of defensive lapses. Heck, Walton will even make a shoot now and again when he opts to take them. Blake just flat out refuses to shoot.

He's a great shooter when he doesn't hesitate and doesn't defer, especially to Kobe.

He just needs the confidence.

The triangle seemed to be the perfect offense for Blake :(.

At least twice in the Miami game he passed up open 3s. You can't play passive when you come off the bench. You got to seize your opportunities in limited minutes. Gotta take that open 3 and be aggressive.

Blake has been disappointing, but Walton's been horrific. Me and my boy had a running 'Walton ****' count every game while Barnes was out.

At least Walton will shoot? Can Phil send Blake a message? Does Blake even respond to anything emotionally?

Exactly. We can't have this going into the playoffs. With Dallas winning last night, we really could have used that win to push us into the second seed. Now we have to rely on other teams doing our dirty work.

Blake is not a "spark" guy.

His game is not really made to come off the bench and change the complexion of the game.

His game is more suited to starting with a spark guy backing him up.

Steve Blake won't get his opportunity until Fisher gets hurt or Phil Jackson Jackson retires ... whichever comes first.

I don't think he really needs to be a spark per say, but just to shoot when you have the open shot, not to make the offense predictable and stay with your man. If he did that, there'd be no problem.

At the end of the game, I'm going to post a log of Blake's passed up shots, predictable offensive lapses and more importantly, defensives lapses. I hope that I can be wrong about all of this, but we shall see.

He's a fantastic shooter. He needs to shoot more, period.

hes gotten too caught up in initiating the offense and becoming too unselfish to get his own.

if he was 7ft tall, id say he needed to wipe off the blood from his vijayjay and stop being pau gasoft

I'm more surprised more people are upset over his defensive lapses. If anything, that hurts us more than him not shooting.

Steve Blake must read Realgm because he actually shot the ball today. I was at work so I didn't get to watch the game, but I DVRed it. I will watch it later. Just checking the box score I see Blake took seven threes, converted on three of them. With several assists. That's what I want to see out of Blake.

Still need to check his defense for the game though.
