Comparing Pau Gasol in any way, shape or form to the GOAT big man is..... Ridiculous.

Also lol@ Kareem ever being soft. You're not calling anyone soft when hes dominating you in every facet on the court.

No need to make excuses for pau. He is what he is. Lakers are winning, we can't complain.

Actually, I can't disagree with what Perkins said. Gasol is soft. Yes, he is the second best player on the team. He is VERY important to their success and was the biggest part in the Game 7 turnaround during last years finals.

With all that said, Gasol is a far better player than Kendrick Perkins.

He's right though, it was a different era... A much more physical era.

Kap was feared. Pau isn't. You didn't want to try to body up Kareem because he was likely to take you out with an elbow.

There are games where Pau looks like there just isn't anything he can do in the face of the the physical play that teams are throwing at him. He starts whining to the refs and flailing around looking for fouls...

Kap never did that. He never backed away from a confrontation and there are videos out there of the fights he was in. Including one where a guy was trying to take out his legs so he hauled off and started throwing bombs on him... Until the dude's team-mate stepped in... Wilt. Then they squared off.

So your right... It's a different era... Kermit Washington played then... Every team had an enforcer...

Could you imaging Pau standing up to Wilt?

And no one got suspended for those fights.

i wont lie, pau is "soft" but thats the way he plays...he's finesse, and hes the best at it...i havent seen a more complete big man than pau(especially in the triangle) since tim duncan the early 2000's.

he can single handedly change the game for a team...hell, he single handedly changed our franchise 3 years ago.

pau is awesome. best PF in the game behind only dirk today.

I can't believe people are hating on Perk for his comments. Pau is soft regardless of what people say. He's a very good player. One of the best at his position. But he can't body certain guy. Perk can muscle with the best of them. He plays great D on Dwight. Something Pau can't do.

It's not so much that someone called Pau 'Soft'... Because nobody seems to be able to identify what exactly 'soft' means...

It's that it came from Kendrick-freakin-Perkins... An 'also-ran' on the Celtics and not even the most important Defensive big on that team. Maybe 3rd after Rasheed even...

Before he got hurt, he was getting owned by Pau and Bynum. So it's about like Sasha V talking about how much he hates Paula Pierce.

Can't agree with this one at all Kobeaki. Cap & soft don't even belong in the same sentence. The difference is the Cap didn't shy away from the rough play, he would rough house right back & if you got dirty he would snap your jaw right in half. Even though he had a slender build he was very strong. Cap would dominate this or any era no one would step to him either.

But I can tell you this.....Cap didn't lose the ball off the slightest contact. Further more Cap was deceptively strong, much stronger than Pau is. Pau can be easily pushed off the block or denied post position, that wasn't much of a problem with Cap. But to Pau's credit he does battle, but you can't compare him with Cap. It ain't even close.

first of all, give perk his props. he really and truly is a tough guy. much tougher than KG, pierce and that punk ray allen. he was the "toughness" of that team. without him, theyre done. end of story. not goin anywhere.

NOW WITH THAT SAID, any LAKER fan with experience will tell you, there are TONS of guys like him in the league and in the leagues past. they have battled and LOST to the LAKERs and get that vendetta type mode. hate everything LA. hate everything LAKERs. hate anything about the franchise. why? frankly, we have kicked ALL THEIR asses. we have a history of that. so hes just another, wanting to make a personal vendetta and hopefully make oklahoma/LAKERs a rivalry. up to this point, its been a one sided ass whoopin.

lets define toughness first and foremost...i would say that it is when , in this case, a player is over powered, he sticks to his game, and keeps at it... i think peoples definition of toughness is thuggery, or big muscles or steamrolling/ overpowering yr opponent..i dont consider that toughness...i dont see pau ever be scared to come back in the game, or back down from an opponent, i do see him stick to his guns, and play with the cards he is dealt, in terms of both his abilities and what his team(kobe) gives him...but he plays the right way, and if his objections to not getting the calls he deserves , most of the time, equals lack of toughness, well i guess you got me there, but that would apply to kobe too...you feel me...this aint a pau vs. kaj debate...if you wanna have that debate, go ahead...and i **** love kaj, and he is the best big man of all time and one of the most fascinating humans beings of modern times, but i think he gets over romanticized at times on this board...

and i can compare him to anyone i like...there are parallels here. weve been through this before.
