The streetcar operators disagree and kick him out because even though it hasn't traveled 13 blocks from his original destination, he has already ridden for a total of 13 blocks when it comes back to the 11th block. When they come back to the 10th block, he has ridden 14 blocks, more than he has paid for, so they kick him out.

The key phrase is that they kick him out "on the 10th block", and not "after 10 blocks". The streetcar has passed the 10th block twice. Streetcars travel back and forth on tracks in a loop, similar to subway cars.

The reason he wants to stay on the streetcar is that he is playing his drums for money, much like we see people playing music in subway stations today and sometimes on the subway cars themselves. If his plan had gone according to plan, he could have ridden the streetcar the whole day, busking for money, since it was physically impossible for the streetcar to travel the 13 blocks from his destination he had paid for. The reason the driver accepted the fare was either because he didn't realize he was only 12 blocks from the streetcar's final stop, or just that he couldn't give change back anyway, since it would have been less than a penny (if it's 10 cents for 13 blocks, that comes out to less than 8/10 of a penny for each block- or about 9.23 cents for 12 blocks).

BRILLIANT! I think this is it...now lock it up and put us out of our misery

Wow that is a phenominal thought process! Even if that doesn't come back to be it, that was amazing and well thought out. Great job, very impressive!

I'm pretty sure that this has been brought up before (and I have a feeling that I've said this 2 years ago) but does "dime" necessarily mean 10 cents?

Also, you dont tell a streetcar how long to take you (if we mean streetcar trolley), tbh streetcar doesn't necessarily mean that. But the answer is in the riddle portion really throws everyone off.

I don't understand why only 1 person its allowed to know this, what if they get shot? and why is a riddle so important to that only one person may know and or must be told, it's a riddle not your grandfathers wristwatch...

Also puzzled why the OP post it since he doesn't know the answer himself. Why cant none of us find this on the web? I highly doubt only his aunt is aware/knows the answer of this riddle.

For what it's what, the "Their Idle" part makes the most sense. The "they" part is suspicious too. At this point I doubt their is an answer. Probably getting trolled. Doubt the OP wouldn't get the answer by now... 2 freakin years.

if you want something interactive try this: http://www.deathball.net/notpron/levelone.htm

LOL you are reaching on the April Fool's thing man. That doesn't even make sense.

I posted it because a friend in college posed the riddle to me, and we made a bet over who could get the answer first. I didn't think it would be on people's minds for two years.

You need to get your friends aunts answer to this. Take drastic measures if necessary.

You have tortured the forum for two years. Enough is enough. It's not fun anymore and either you or your friend/his aunt are quite evil for doing so. I can understand the suspense for several weeks but not since 2009.

That's why I'm suspicious of the whole thing. Seems like a big joke. If you don't know the answer then someone might as well lock the thread. You could bump the question on your NFL forum site account.

is the answer on anyone of the 14 pages? If so which...and does it have to do with the TENTH block and a dime being a TENTH of a dollar or is that just coincidental?

Yeah, somehow I don't think answers to riddles are supposed to be essays. Otherwise no one would fricken do them.

this is a nice story, but it doesn't use the hint "I say the answer every time I say the riddle"

The answer is simpler than it seems.

I don't know it yet but it is probably some sort of reference that has long been lost in modern English language.

ok from what i know about riddles:

theres some kind of play on words here we're not seeing. he paid a streetcar driver to drive him 13 blocks. but maybe not in a streetcar. maybe the drive is something else? not sure theres any other kinds of 'dollar' but its gotta be something along these lines. someone posted it a bit back but i also though of some type of musical terms - drive, kicked out (kick drum). that is all. sorry i wasn't more help.

If the answer to this riddle is longer than a simple one line sentence, then it is a poor riddle. Some of you are going in too literal of a direction for this answer.

agreed, so it has to be something that was said in the riddle and it has to be short and sweet.

I was thinking .. My friend mentioned that the drumsticks are chicken and you're not allowed to have food in Public transit.. And drumsticks is in the riddle .. And it didn't have to be like he was hiding the chicken for ten blocks .. Could have been the next one was the tenth block.. Oh well best I got for now lol.. :-?

eighty-ten to thirteen?

Hint: I tell you the answer every time I say the riddle.

It must be something in the riddle words itself. Triy to decode it in the letters or so forth.

If this dude is trolling us then it was funny in 2009. Now it's just torture.
