He's Little Ozzy, one of the most esteemed members of this board and also a soccer board mod. Everyone who wants to talk RSL go there and discuss. The board there is all about soccer world wide. We will certainly allow RSL specific discussion on this board as well.

I like soccer, but the MLS is a joke. I only watch when I'm betting on it. RSL are pretty good at home at their new stadium. Always good for goals with Saborio and that Espindola guy.

im salt lake til I die!

cant wait for this game. Also, anyone who says the MLS is a joke has never paid attention to it. trust me, i was once on that boat. there is some quality football in this league and Utah is quite lucky to have this team around. We are currently up 2-0 in the semi finals of the CONCACAF Champions league. Bringing that cup home Would be HUGE for American soccer!

Embrace this team, Utahns and Jazz fans!

I like the fact our Hispanic community has embraced the franchise. I don't know the game well, but would be happy growing up with this team.

Just talked with Ozzie, I unlocked the thread because I think we can take on RSL threads for those who want to be homers or talk about Soccer in Utah. You will get your best chat in the Soccer board, but feel free to discuss here too. Let your Jazz friends who like RSL know about RealGM too. We can create a large fan base here where we can not just talk about our own team, but go out and discuss things with other fan bases too.

A) soccer isn't for ninnies.
B) MLS is not a joke. It isn't a top 5 league but its quality is better than the majority of the leagues out there.

GO RSL!

Not even top 10. Don't get me wrong, I think the MLS can be entertaining but the quality isn't comparable to most countries. It's not even the best league in America. The Mexican league has more quality.

Doesn't mean it's not a good league to follow or to play at. I like how the MLS is trying to become bigger and better. You can see the improvement on a yearly basis. Euro vets come over and become marquee players in the MLS. The American soccer fans get a glimpse of players like Henry, Beckham, Schelotto, Marquez, N'Kufo etc. before they retire. It's nice.

I also like how the county of Salt Lake has built a "real" soccer stadium for the club. I get annoyed when I watch Houston or New England play on their football pitch with the lines and stuff still on it.

It's top 15. The money is there. When the people come it will be top 10. There's no reason for the Mexican league to be better. We should get every one of their top players and let them get their ladies preggers here.

RSL has shown it at least can hang with the Mexican league so far in CONCACAF Champions League. I'm hoping they are able to finish off Saprissa in the semis and defeat either Monterrey or Cruz Azul in the final.

A rematch of RSL/Cruz Azul in the Final would be sweet.

I didn't say that they were top ten. I would say that they are close to top 15 and will be top ten'ish soon. Mexico's league is the best in the America's. Argentina's top 3 teams are really good but the bottom of the league isn't good at all. MLS is either 2nd or 3rd in the America's. They are better than all of Africa, Asia, Australia, and most of Europe.

Houston is building their own stadium. It will be done next year.

Wow. Could you give me a couple of examples? I follow most European soccer leagues and believe most of them have better quality than MLS soccer.

Example: Movsisyan was a very good striker at RSL and now plays for the worst team in the Russian league.

By most of Europe you mean the parts that aren't: England, Spain, Italy, France, Germany, Netherlands, Russia.... et al.

yeah...

No, I am serious. Overall. Outside of the top team or two of a few of the leagues MLS is better.

MLS is arguably better than:

Albania
Andorra
Armenia
Austria
Azerbaijan
Belerus
Belgium
Bosnia
Bulgaria
Croatia
Cyprus
Czech Rep
Denmark
Estonia
Finland
Macedonia
Georgia
Greece
Hungary
Iceland
Israel
Kazakhstan
Latvia
Liechtenstein
Lithuania
Luxembourg
Malta
Moldova
Montenegro
Northern Ireland
Norway
Poland
Portugal
Ireland
Romania
Russia
Scotland
Serbia
Slovakia
Slovenia
Sweden
Switzerland
Turkey
Ukraine
Wales

Do you want me to keep going?

As far as Yuri, different leagues, styles, cultures, teammates, and the fact that he was very streaky on RSL. He also moved to Russia because he wanted the opportunity to play in Europe and it was more money than he was making here.

Remember that the payroll of an MLS team is a fraction of any European team.
