Re:Barnes on defence, this is about the pros, you cant judge him against the kids, its all about how he will defend against the top notch players of which there are plenty at the 3 in the NBA. Watch how he 'jogs' back on D, that isnt a sign of defensive intensity IMO. And he will get abused on D.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

The more I watched Barnes, the less I am convinced he can be an all-star at the pro level. He doesn't have the first step to get by people, settle for a lot of jumpers. He needs to improve his handle as well. He is definitely someone who needs his PG to setup easy shots for him. Certain things can improve like his handle, but you can't teach first step. He doesn't have that. He needs to have top notch handle like Brandon Roy or Joe Johnson to succeed at the next level, because he can't get to the paint right now.

I am actually fine with him on defense. He stays in front of people, and move his feet pretty well.

What time is the Duke game today?

btw, I'm not mad at anything Barnes did that game. We all after to remember this:

If he over-achieves, we lose him.

Since we are talking Tar Hills, I am more impressed with John Henson than Barnes. Long, skinny and a great athlete. He can either be the next Marcus Camby or Brandon Wright. He has a good work ethic, so he shouldn't disappear like Wright. Needs to work on his offense though.

Judging from the college level he's got good defensive fundamentals, so he has the potential to be a solid defender, no one is going to dominate on the defensive end in the first year they play in the nba, Defense skills improve year by year and by experiences gained every NBA game. So you automatically jump into the conclusion saying that he'll be destroyed on the defensive end in the NBA ALREADY?? So that's just a premature analysis from you on Barnes' D.

Games like this (Duke Michigan) remind me why I usually ignore college basketball.

He's so like Luol Deng at the moment.

I wasn't mad at Barnes game today either... only criticism i have is that when he drives he doesn't go hard enough to the rim... and seems to hesitate/double himself and goes with a back up move.

Also, one frustrating thing I saw.. yeah he was good on D' and came up with some big plays.. and he gets rebounds... but so many times the balls just in the air and he stood around watching the ball and the other team got an offensive rebound... drove me nuts.. it happend about 3-4 times.

not really sold on barnes as well. the only thing he got going for him is his jumpshot, which is very iffy at times. he seems like he just uses his length and athleticism to attack the rim with reckless abandon. barely has any finesse, can't finish well, and can't really handle the ball. don't know if his athleticism, which will be in the middle of the pack in the nba, will make him an effective nba player.

Wasn't he the guy to bobble the ball out of bounds and then almost goaltend the last shot attempt? Seems like a bonehead to me.

I can't remember that far back, but why did a guy with the talent of VC go 5th in '98? Why was he not the unquestioned #1 overall pick?

I just want to say that most of the top NA prospects this year have similar names this year:
Derrick, Perry, Terrence, Harrison, Kyrie, Jared.

There is zero value to this information except to hope that Kahn or some other genius GM will get them confused.

Because he was labeled as a high flyer in the UNC years, people weren't highly sold on his overall skill-sets. His stock wasn't high enough due to that reason

Oh ok, that makes sense since he had to learn a jumper in the NBA.

Yeah that's what the mock drafts said and I was watching Vince's UNC game on the score couple weeks ago, they had a lot of motion offense sequence, Vince never really had the ball in his hand to drive or create plays for others, most of the time he catches the ball and passes it back out or swing the ball to his teammates. And h e basically uses his athleticism for put backs or catches and jump over people, never really took more than 3 jumpers a game thus his skill set wasn't utilized in UNC offense. And Jamison was the go to guy too.

So he was pretty much a "potential" guy, except he managed to develop quickly and become rookie of the year instead of being a wait and see prospect.

Return to Toronto Raptors
