OT: Music

Post#1 » by Never Fear 33 Is Here » Sun Mar 20, 2011 12:44 pm

Hey all,

Sorry for the new thread I briefly looked through the first 10 pages to try and find the old thread but had no luck.

Plug some bands in here worth trying.

But also, I wanted to get a feel for what people thought/think of Placebo. I remember their track Every Me Every You and just heard one of their songs from 5 or so years ago whilst watching NCIS: LA so thought I'd ask if they were worth a try or not?

Later much,

D

I bought Placebos greatest hits and was largely unimpressed. Couple of good songs but mostly the same sort of stuff.

I'll bring a copy to melb for ya if you want :)

Never really liked Placebo that much. They're alright. I saw them back in 2005 and it was a good show. But the guy's voice can get pretty annoying.

Don't know how popular they are in USA but this band from Seattle is great.

I'll take the chance to post this before all the hip hop videos start raining.

Placebo are largely uninteresting.

No offense OP, but I've seen placebo live in a festival and I thought they were the worst band there.

That you heard one of their songs on NCIS should answer your question.

Was the song you are chasing called "running up that hill"? It gets a ton on play on tv, it's actually a cover of a Kate Bush song from ages ago. They've been playing it live for over ten years now, and recorded a studio version shortly after. It's probably one of their best recordings, and it's not even their song :s

Hope that helps :)

All good brother, I "acquired" their discography before posting this thread last night. ;)

It's no offence to me. I was getting peoples view on them as I don't know a lot of their stuff. Before yesterday, I only knew of Every Me Every You.

I believe so. Thanks for the heads up. Not a bad track, may have to give the original a go too.

I love my Red Hot Chilli Peppers. No other band can beat their pure guitar riffs in my opinion, except for legends like Hendrix.

P.S.. For you guitar folks here...Does anyone know what type of pedal is used for the Solo in Danni California by Red Hot Chilli Peppers? I think its a wah pedal, but not 100% sure. I dont want to go out and spend 100 bucks on buying the wrong pedal.

Im not the biggest expert on pedals or anything. been playing acoustic most of my life, and just clean riffs on electric.

you mean the very last part??

There's lots kinds of **** going on there. It's possible that there's a wah wah but not only that.

If you don't have any effects yet, start with some distortion.

Yeah the very last part. I got a Line 6 Spider Amp which has nice built in effects, and distortion or whatever but its hard to change the effects when you're playing mid song. You literally have to bend down and press a button to change effects, which wont look too good at a gig.

The chili peppers will have a new guitar player on their next cd, should be interesting to see if it works better than the last time John Frusciante left.

right. You need to get a bunch of pedals then :D

I don't have many but I do ok. I have Distortion + 7 band EQ + Compressor/Sustainer + Delay + Wah.
For guitars I have a Fender Jazzmaster and an Epiphone LP Custom. And a Fender The Twin which I would never ever get rid of.
