Re: Official Raptors 2011 NBA Draft Thread, Part 4
We need more of a distributor than a scorer like Walker or Knight. If Kemba is the BPA I wouldn't be happy but I think he might prove me wrong. I mean he can score and dish, I just don't think he's that top level point guard we would need to succeed in the modern NBA. With guys like DeMar, JJ, Davis, etc we need a guy to feed them bunnies so they can get going because none of them are excellent creators, which is why I say we go for a wing if Kyrie is out of reach and worry about a point guard next draft.

I wonder what those scouts are looking for if they don`t even mention Marshall. To me he looks very much NBA ready even though his game may not look as flashy as other hyped PG`s.

Stop being gullible. These stories pop up for everyone in the top end of the draft this time of year.

I look at it from a different perspective. Since Derozan isn't a guy who's great at creating off the dribble or shooting from outside, we need that from our point guard. Right now, our best guy at creating is coming off the bench (Barbosa) and he doesn't even look to pass to his teammates.

I see what you're saying but I think our point guard needs to be able to dish first, and shoot second. When I say creator I don't mean for himself, I mean for his teammates like what Steve Nash does but to a lesser extent most likely, lol. I think our small forward needs to be in the mold of Harrison Barnes which is why he's so highly regarded on this board. He can shoot it and looks great next to DeMar/Ed. Include a distributing point guard to that equation and you're setting up nicely.

Why, because I said that James Johnson is our guy? I only said that cuz he played superb yesterday, I didn't necessarily agree that Barnes will stay at school.

If we don't get a point guard, I'm honestly happy with Jose. Top 5 in assists, runs the team beautifully, and his defense has been much better this year imo. If he can work this summer to make that jumper cashmoney like it used to be, he can be one of the top point guards.

Iman Shumpert reminds me of Rajon Rondo. I'm interested to see how he'll do in the NBA.

SF's: Harrsion Barnes, T Jones
PG's: Kyrie Irving, Kemba Walker
Bigs: Kanter (depending a pre-draft measurements), Jonas V
Any of the above players I'd be fine with. If Kanter is less than 6'10", or his wingspan is small for a big, then I'd have to pass. Also, with Jonas V.....he's obviously an unknown, so we really need to see him go throught the pre-draft evaluations. For all we know, he could drop to the 20's if he doesn't come as advertised.

I'm trying to sell myself on Kemba Walker, I really am. I just can't bring myself to think that drafting a 5'10" shoot first point guard with a possible top-5 pick is a good thing. Unless he turns into Allen Iverson or Tim Hardaway or Calvin Murphy I think I'd be pissed. I know it's a high standard but it's just how I feel.

A top 5 pick isn't going to declare? I don't believe it.

Re: Official Raptors 2011 NBA Draft Thread, Part 4
Yeah that's unreasonable. There's high chance that the best player in any draft doesn't reach that level. Top 5 pick in a weak draft like this one should have lower expectations on them

Arrrgghhh I just can't do it. Not when the NBA almost expects you to have a great point guard these days. I think it would be a wasted pick unless you're drafting a guy in the top-5 specifically to be a 6th man. I'd rather take a shot at Brandon Knight who's not as good but has a higher ceiling and is smart as a cookie!

I'd be happy if we can get a Tony Parker level player tbh.

Tony Parker is really good though. You think Kemba can be as good or better than Tony?

Walker has been playing like Iverson, so there's no reason why he can't do that at the next level. He's simply too quick and lights out which is an nba must have.

I hear ya.
For me, the only thing is the size with Walker. He is diminutive. That's a fact.
But, watching him play, the guy is relentless. I was listening to a podcast Givony did with SportsIllustrated, and he remarked on his work ethic, and just how much he's improved in one year. He's just a guy that I'm not going to bet against. And for that matter, I'm not going to bet against Jimmer Fredette either. There's just something unique about both of these guys.
If you remember Dewayne Wade back in college, a junior coming out just like Walker - that guy rose to top 5 territory doing essentially what Kemba is doing now for UCONN. Food for thought.
It's just a hunch. I could be completely off-base. But, I think he'll be good in the NBA.
