Rockets Send Thabeet To D-League
Mar 21, 2011 12:48 PM EDT

Houston Rockets center Hasheem Thabeet was assigned to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, the Rockets’ NBA Development League affiliate, it was announced today. The assignment marks the 48th time in the 2010-11 season an NBA player has been assigned to an NBA D-League affiliate, and it is the second assignment for Thabeet, a second-year pro out of Connecticut.

Thabeet, the No. 2 overall selection in the 2009 NBA Draft, is the 34th NBA player to be assigned to the NBA D-League this season, which is an all-time high. The Memphis Grizzlies, who drafted Thabeet, assigned him to the Dakota Wizards last season, where he averaged 13.8 points, 11.2 rebounds and 3.8 blocks in six games.

Thabeet (7-3, 263) has appeared in 115 career NBA games, averaging 2.3 points and 2.8 rebounds in 10.9 minutes.

I think this a good move because the Vipers Coach and others are good at developing and maximizing young talent. I would say Patterson is better for spending some time in the D league and will Thabeet.

If you're interested in watching Thabeet put up 8 points 7 rebounds and 2 blocks, you can watch tonight's Vipers game on Futurecast. Game starts in 5 minutes. He'll go up against none other Antoine Walker.

What do you mean?

I coudn't resist watching a D-League game featuring Antoine Walker?

WHO COULD.

The game was seriously bad though, so I was forced to switch over to the Knicks-Celtics game after the first quarter.

Thabeet finished with 11 points (5/5FG 1/1FT), 6 rebounds and 4 blocks in 26 minutes.

How do you play 34 minutes and only get 5 rebounds when ur 7'3? You'll have to actively dodge them to do that.

he was a beast in the nbdl when he went in there under the grizzlies. this guy is doing the opposite of progressing and developing. i think he's lost all confidence and he's folding under pressure at being a bust.
