OT - Owner's meeting

Post#1 » by Wilford Brimley » Mon Mar 21, 2011 1:11 pm

Aside from the labor discussions, there is also this.

BrianCarriveau The Packers are very likely to play in the NFL's opening weekend Thursday night game, which is usually announced at the owners meeting.

Daffy fap.

Bears or Saints, plz.

That's already a known, the Super Bowl champ opens the season at home on the Thursday night opener. But the league won't be announcing the opponent during the owners meeting as they've done in the past. Good bet it will be the Saints though.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Makes the most sense given our home schedule. I guess it could be the Bears but the past two Superbowl champs would be ratings dynamite. I'm sure Fox will do it's best to get Packers/Saints too.

It would be nice to get that one out of the way while we have the most time to prepare, coupled with the longer time off before week 2.

They aren't announcing that or the compensatory picks until probably next week, probably mostly has to do with talking business/CBA stuff this week more than anything else.

Kickoffs will be moved up to the 35-yard line but touchbacks will remain at the 20-yard line.

The replay rule also passed, all scoring plays will be booth reviews. Coaches will keep the third challenge. #NFLmeetings

2 questions.

If you guys recall, near the end of the 1st half vs Dallas, Dallas fumbled a kickoff which Collins took back for a TD, putting us up 28-0.

Replays showed the Dallas KR was down, but Dallas had no challenges left, so the TD stood.

My question is this. With this new rules in place:

1) If Collins "knew" the dude was down, would he be better served stepping out at the 1 yard line? Thus, the play wouldn't be reviewed (because its not a scoring play)?

2) In such plays, is only the TD going to be reviewed? Or everything else in the play, as well? (Ie if the KR's knee was down).

Sorry if these questions are unclear.

I don't think they have announced the official details of what determines which plays can be reviewed and what portions, will be interesting to see when the official wording comes out for sure.

So the booth is going to review every scoring play and tell the ref whether to do an actual review or not... I don't like it. Too much delay. And while they're at it they should just use the college system of doing the actual review in the booth instead of the ref under the hood.

People may disagree, but I love the way the Big Ten reviews work. Just let everything come from above. Every play.

In theory that's probably right but a player can't possibly think that fast and determine whether the KR was down or not and to step out at the 1. He's going to score.

What I don't like is if a team blows it's challenges and then still gets scoring plays reviewed.

The current system is fine.

Yea, I hate the current system. Get the calls right, whatever it takes. I'm the same way in baseball. To hell with the "human element".

I think coaches should have to answer science trivia questions and go through obstacle courses like Legends of the Hidden Temple to earn challenges.

Legends of the Hidden Temple FTW.

Football needs more of those crazy dudes with feathers on their heads that just random jump out from parts of the field and tackle players.

Instead of the Lombardi trophy they should give the Shrine of the Silver Monkey.

Yeah, after you win the Super Bowl you should have to crawl through some cut up Styrofoam, climb some rope ladders and then put some pegs into some holes before getting it though.

I absolutely love it and wish the NFL would go to it, it is by far the best instant replay system.
