These are awesome pictures. I just bought an SLR myself and i can't wait to take this to games. Going to borrow some lenses for a Cubs game that i might be going to.

Sure thing. The biggest thing with live action is to use a high shutter speed. I struggled with that at the UC, because it's not quite as bright as it looks. That's why a lot of my shots are not quite in focus. But outdoors at a cubs game, you should have no problem freezing the action.

They confiscated my 200-500mm lens at the gate, but I did manage to bring my 18-200mm lens and camera. So, I thought I'd share my top 100 pics with you fine folks.

Enjoy!
P.S. I'd love to hear which shots are your favorites.
Sweet man! I'm hoping to get my D90 w/ 18-200 in tonight. If I can ill definitely post up the pics I get. Love the photos.

The d7000 can what iso were you shooting at? The d7000 can handle high iso unlike my d90 that has grain

If the Bulls do, you would be complaining to much to ever hear it.
NBA fan logic we need to trade one of two best players because (Player X) one needs to shine more.

I was thinking about replacing my D90 body w/ a D3100... does anyone know if that's even an upgrade?

What lenses do you have? I would upgrade those first.

i'm kind of a noob but high shutter speed, iso at 200-400, and a lower aperture? am i getting this right?
also, for those interested there's an actual website where you can rent out lenses instead of buying them. saves you some money

I had the ISO cranked up to 800 at the game. I had a d70 before the d7000, and its grain was unbearable, so I'm pretty wary of going any higher. I haven't run any field tests for ISO yet, but I think the d7000 goes as high as 6400.

I have a Sigma 18-200mm 3.5-6.3 lens with optical stabilization (which makes a really annoying high pitch whine, like an old tv). When I'm zoomed in, which was pretty much the entire time, the aperture can only open to 6.3. With a prime lens, you'd get a few more stops, but they're crazy expensive. Lenses are like scotch, there's always another one that's better and more expensive than whatever you get.

Man, these are incredible! I just did a slideshow and love em all. Still trying to decide which one I like the best.

by the way. what's the limit on the lenses that you can bring to the games? Is it no more than 6 inches?

.
You could have done an higher iso with D7000 without the grain effect.

I had e-mailed the UC asking about my bigger lens (200-500mm) and had been given permission, but I couldn't find the e-mail on my phone when they hassled me at the gate. They took the big lens with my backpack, and acted like they were breaking the rules to let me keep the 18-200mm lens. Seemed like a power trip to me.

Good to know. When do you start to notice it?

That i don't know but my photographer friend uses a Nikon D7000 i'll ask her. She used to own the d90. But she mentioned to me she enjoyed being able to shoot at a higher iso now in low light environments.

I was hoping to see more Canon vs Nikon debate! My wife is a photographer, and we have all Canon with several L lenses.
Never taken any to a game since I am not the big picture guy, but these are cool. I wish she would go and snap photos so I can enjoy the game, especially from seats as good as those.
