I recommend Big K.R.I.T - Return of 4eva. Comes out tomorrow.
I'll def give it a peep. I need some new hip hop and I've been falling off my game in terms of keeping track of what's out and what's hot.

I blame it on his crew. He's broke and stuck in Philly where the music scene isn't spectacular. Plus the cats he's surrounded himself with can't produce beats for shyt. And they have no idea how to promote this dude. I've only heard him rap over a few original tracks, most of the shyt he raps over is old instrumentals, but out of all his original tracks, only Tomorrow had a pretty tight beat. And now they took that off of youtube so i cant even find it anymore.
It's a shame, because I know someone very close to me whose just as nice in his own way but never made it for similar reasons.
Trust but verify.

that and philly's infamous for producing amazing street mcs who never amount to anything. its like they do it as a hobby, get real good at it and dont have any aspirations to be anything more than what they are.
so many guys with the gift of gab from philly: joey jihad, spittage, hollowman, cyssero...too many to name. none of em black out like rico did. he had the potential to actually pen real songs unlike those other guys...well, maybe spittage but he's dead.

Never heard of Slaughter Rico before, he got a nice flow to him. Can someone mention a mixtape that would be worth giving a shot?

Re: Official Rap/Hip Hop Thread 2.0
What you all think about these dudes. They lived underneath me last year in New Ro when I was at Iona. SJ Beats raps and makes all of the beats (obviously) and videos. Kinda has a laid back Cool Kids vibe to it with a New York tinge. J-EA is a little more charismatic and his voice sounds like he has a cold ha. They compliment well.
These first six videos are filmed in and outside our apt. It was a 3 family house a few blocks from school. A f*ckin dump honestly. Mice all over the place, broken doors/windows, the heat was all out of whack, the toilet would always overflow and flood the joint, and a crazy Rastafarian man was our Super who never fixed anything and would pop out of the dark to scare us when we were doing laundry. Ha anyway the rappers had the 1st floor and we had the 2nd. These dudes would be bumpin bass non stop. Drove us nuts sometimes but we were all cool. Would smoke Ls, play ball, and collab on some parties. The black girls they would invite would get a little crazy man. Give em some jungle juice and they're dry humpin you within the hour, but piss them off and theyd ruin the whole night. We used to have both floors packed to the brim and just go up and down all night. The stairs would get fuzzier and fuzzier the more shots and rips you took. Oh how I miss college.

They're a little rough around the edges but SJ has some serious beat making skills. As a duo they work better than on their own IMO. Its just a matter of getting a shot. Nowadays Hip Hop is so hard to get into because everyone with a rhymebook and a laptop can be a rapper. I doubt they ever hit it big but Im hoping for some underground success. They're only like 20/21 years old.

You nailed it though. Its true. Rico is the rare kind of cat that literally goes into a trance when he spits. Watch this freestyle, check out his eyes. He does str8 black out, its crazy.
He comes in at 27 seconds then again at 3:06 dont bother watchin the other dudes rappin, theyre garbage.

Theyre not bad. I can tell theyre young. Personally I think they need another few years of seasoning, but there's definite potential there to do something, at least on the underground level.

The New Pharoahe Monch is pretty solid all the way through, IMO a step back from Desire but still good.
