Let's be honest... the way Rubio is playing in this WC isn't exactly what people expected from him... he's a disappointment so far.

BTW he has not progressed offensively in the last 2 years and his shot is ugly... and he turns the ball over too much for a PG like him. I don't know but i'm not so sure about his NBA chances to be more than a role player / decent starter...

Repeat with me: I won't judge a player just by a bad tournament.

Scariolo can't coach Spain. Spain needs to steal the ball and run. That's what players like Rubio, Rudy, Navarro, Felipe, Marc, Claver, Llull... etc do. I hope Scariolo leaves...

Rubio came back with Barcelona (and with Coach Xavi Pascual) and look what he did against Real Madrid and against Sergio Rodriguez: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_mInw1Bp6Y

Learn this Wolves fans: Rubio NEEDS to run. He's a mediocre player if he plays walking.
When I finish a game, they ask me "how did it go? how many points did you score?", when the real question should be "what have you done today to help your team win?". - Ricky Rubio.

This thread has nothing to do with Scariolo. It's about Ricky as a player...

So he has just one gear? Then you're saying he's not an elite PG...

Okay, let's see his 3P percentages:

DKV Joventut 07/08 = 21/101 - 29%
DKV Joventut 08/09 = 23/53 - 43%
FC Barcelona 09/10 = 36/90 - 40% (his percentage is lower but he shooted more)

How his shooting mechanic has changed (video): http://php.marca.com/2010/01/12/balonce ... 90912.html

Didn't you know that coaches can influence players? Rubio played great during the preparation games when he was Calderon's back up. Ricky is a game-changer and he needs to play with athletic people (Reyes and Vazquez, not Marc and Garbajosa! ). So Calderon got injured and Rubio played terrible since he was the starting PG and Scariolo made all the team play like walking.

But then, Ricky came back with Barcelona, with coach Pascual, with athletic players like Mickeal, Morris, Vazquez...:

7'5pts, 6reb, 4.5as, 2stl in 23min. Shooting percentage: 63%

Coincidence? I don't think so.

Ricky Bustio sucked today.

Manhandled by Derek Fisher. 0-5, 4 TO's and 3 PF's in 17 min. 3 assists.

T-Wolves may be better off without him.
Just another fan of a team in perpetual limbo.

And 2 airballs from three in the same game mean his shot is still ugly... whatever somebody's saying... maybe it's Scariolo...

Oh! What do we have here! An aesthete!

Quick release. No lateral torsion whatsoever in arm movement, shoulder-elbow-wrist, from right side of face to a foot above. Fingertips touching the ball, well spread in the 'big hand' all good shooters have, correct wrist snap, release at apex of jump, decent balance even on turnarounds, correct follow-through. Pretty much by the book. Reflected in good shooting stats.

Then again, if you've learned basketball fundamentals on a video game, possibly it looks pretty bad.

Larry Bird also had a strange shot, didn't he?

I had to.

sisibillo, Kidd and Stockton, in their prime, could've easily averaged 20 points a game strictly by driving it to the basket. Stockton had a shot. It took Kidd up until he lost his athleticism to decide to develop one. But both were true point guards. When they needed to score, they could. Right now, on a pick & roll, if the opposing PG goes under the screen, Rubio won't take the shot. He'll look for another opportunity to find a teammate or drive to the hoop. Both Stockton and Kidd, moreso Stockton, made teams pay by going under the screen. Rubio has yet to show that.

Some PG's get away with having no jump shot, as long as they are ridiculously amazing at everything else. Case in point: Rajon Rondo. Rubio doesn't have enough intangibles to truly get away with some of the things Rondo routinely gets away with. But I bet, no matter where Rubio goes, he averages 7-8 assists his first year. The kid is gifted, even if he isn't strong. He's been in the spotlight for too long to give people a reason to hate. If Darko turned pro in Spain at 14, his career would be vastly different than it is now.

Ricky is really struggling with the jump shot.
He could be a good PG in the NBA .
