OT: Rutgers - New Brunswick

I'm not a Nets fan but I come in peace.

I'm thinking of applying to the MPH program at Rutgers University - New Brunswick. http://sph.umdnj.edu/degrees/degreeDeta ... gr_ID_pk=1

I don't know anyone who has gone to Rutgers, so I'm hoping some of you Net fans can give me feedback about anything you know about it. If I'm lucky maybe one of you has gone through MPH program.

Im a junior at Rutgers now. Im majoring in finance so I cant really tell you much about the MPH program but I've lived in New Brunswick besides summers for the last 2.5 yrs now. The city isnt the greatest, my house got broken into and robbed a few times so we moved to a different part of town, over breaks their are a lot of breakins into students' houses. Try to avoid living far from campus. The academics on the other hand i can't really complain about too much other than having to go through like 10 different people to get into some clases. The New Brunswick campus is divided into 5 campuses, none further than a 5-10 minute drive but you'll probably have to drive or take the Rutgers buses to some classes. There are a few awful professors but most of them are willing to help and are interesting people. I've had some professors with very interesting work experience that told some cool stories. The campus kind of sucks, but they've been doing a lot of construction recently trying to make it nicer, especially on livingston. Theres a bunch of bars and restaurants so they're usually something to do on weekends especially if you like to drink. Im an in-state student and my tuition isnt too bad so I' think the schools alright.

If you want a STD, definitely go to Rutgers

We went from talking about the MPH program at Rutgers to STDs and the crime rate of New Brunswick. Only on a Nets forum lol....

Thanks for the feedback man. Is the crime really that bad in New Brunswick? That's kinda depressing and sad to hear. I'm less motivated to apply now :lol:

but will probably apply anyway. On google maps, it says New Brunswick is an hour from Manhattan. Do Rutgers students usually party in the surrounding area or head to NYC?

Haha I've been to Jersey before for a day or two visit -- but don't know anyone there currently or stayed for a lengthy period of time.

I like the fact that the tri-state area is cosmopolitan and Jersey is close to NYC (can't live in NYC -- way too expensive for me). I imagine Soprano type gangsters and Guidos from the Jersey Shore hanging out in New Brunswick though :lol:

don't mean to stereotype but that's what I see in popular culture about Jersey.

You won't see "Sopranos" in New Brunswick. Where I live though? I see one every time I look in the mirror.

And the Jersey Shore people are all from New York.

I've lived around New Brunswick my whole life and I can tell you that it's not known for crime or bad areas. It has its bad parts but mostly, it's a college city. There's a lot to do. Great places to eat, drink, dance, and hang out. I live in North Brunswick but my dad has owned a liquor store in New Brunswick for 25 years. My twin sister attends Rutgers (she's a graduating senior) and loves it. My brother is going to be attending Rutgers this fall. It's a fun university and there are a lot of opportunities to grow there as a person and student....And this is coming from a Seton Hall student lol.

there was plenty of guidos at rutgers when i was a student there, which was only 5 years ago. they were all in 2 separate frats: fiji and zeta. im sure guidos are still plentiful on campus. btw i highly recommend going there, best 4 1/2 years of my life SERIOUSLY.

and the crime part is pretty accurate, there was a serial rapist going around when i lived there and it wasnt uncommon to hear about break ins/robberies. but i never once felt unsafe there, except for that one time that i got surrounded by about 10 "urban youths" who demanded all i had in my pocket ($5 lol). all true

I got accepted and am considering going there for political science. Is it really that bad?

I always thought of Rutgers as a quality school.
