Rule Changes: Special Teams

With the new rules on special teams kickoff returners are not as valuable. I think this makes the Bears think more about not re-signing Manning

This royally f***s this team over. No other team in the league has special teams as big a part of their game plan as the Bears.

Lame! They also made a rule that all scoring plays are reviewed in the NFL. Knowing the NFL they are probably to stupid to include TD's that weren't rule a TD but ruled short. Example: Cutler's QB sneak vs Washington last year.

The positive is that Hester is more dangerous on punts and nothing is changing there.

If the NFL keeps this up, football will be absolutely horrible: 20-game season, kickoff from the 50 yd. line, 30-yard penalty for looking at the opponent's quarterback with anything but a smile, and all the games will be in London. Blimey.

Seriously though, this is not cool for the Bears; nor is it for football in general. Its always awesome to see someone run the length of the football field and make 11 guys look silly.

The rule is there to prevent injuries, but almost ALL injuries occur after the ball has reached the returner. This makes no sense at all. Toub better get think of something.

It's bad enough to watch our offense getting stalled at the 40-45 after a good return, now we have to watch as we get stalled at the 25.

It might play into resigning Manning, but it won't be a deal breaker, Manning has shown improvement at the FS spot. Him and Harris were extremely solid last year. Major Wright's improvement in the offseason will be the biggest factor, especially with the lockout in effect and the fact that players won't be able to sign with anyone. That gives the Bears some leverage. If Wright improves, he'll just take over at FS and they'll let Manning go. If Wright turns out to be another Steltz or Archuleta, we're screwed if we don't have a decent backup. I don't see Manning coming back anyways, and Major Wright looked very promising in his limited playing time last year.
good intentions are microscopic to fat pockets

Return to Chicago Bears
