He will be called up soon, from the way you guys have been describing it. Sounds like some playing time to work out kinks and gets called up in May-June

Since when does Weems bring any kind of defense to the court anyway?

He sounds like he's taking it in stride.

And this might mean the Jays tried to move him before the media could make a story of it?

Jays quietly slide Lawrie assignment to minor league camp into notes w/o availability after he has been the talk of the spring.

I think this is a good move. Let him work on his defense, and he should be back in no time.

... and start his arb clock a year later. AA was on the Fan yesterday and when asked if they were avoiding Brett Lawrie's service time starting early, he said:

"I can answer this both ways. No GM will tell you the opposite, but - reading between the lines ... if we treat players the right way, and players know if they're not being treated the right way, agents know if they're not being treated the right way. So, if someone has a great spring, and the person they're competing with has had a terrible spring, and it's clear developmentally that they're ready, and it's very very obvious who should be on the team, we have to look ourselves in the mirror and ask if we're holding up our end of the bargain ... Brett's played well, and Rivera's swung the bat very well and obviously he's under contract for 5 million dollars"

Bottom line: we're leaving him in the minors until the summer no matter how good he hits in the spring.

Here are the jays with accounts. I think this is an exhaustive list right now.

Joe Carter, Litsch, Cecil, Romero, JPA, Snider, Lawrie, Frank Gailey (minor leaguer), Deck McGuire (minor leaguer), Jake Marsinek (minor leaguer)

Love the tweets from BL. Taking the long term view! He's gonna have a long and fine career, so no sense in going all HAM on management. He'll get his.

I would've been scared if he'd broken with the big club, 'cause there are way too many solid reasons to start him in AAA. IMO if he'd started with the Jays I'd have to assume it was either 'cause some of the personality rumours were true and they were scared of pissing him off or as a Leafesque publicity move that does more damage than good. Didn't happen and it shouldn't have. Whether he's back in July or September is probably all up to him, and a maybe a little bit on Rivera, Bautista, and Encarnacion.
