Not to say he hasn't been playing passively, but I hardly blame him for the video in the OP. He took a bad first dribble which would have made making the layup fairly difficult.

Gotta be injuries, though.

I don't know what the problem is but passing up layups when you have a step on the guys behind you and you are faster than they are is not a good idea. He slowed down when he got the ball. Stat padding anything (if that's what he was trying to do) never leads to any good. Just make the layup instead of searching for a trailer and if you miss or get fouled then shoot the damn FT's or run back on defense.

trying to pad his assists. I really hate when players don't take half court shots at the end of quarters or pull stuff like Rondo's doing. It just looks bad.

I'm thinking he didn't realize Allen had fallen down. Kicking it out to a trailing Ray Allen for an open transition three could have been a better shot than a contested layup against one of the best defenders in the league. Still, bad play there. A point guard has to be aware of risk vs. reward situations like that.

I don't think he was padding stats, he thought Tony Allen was closer behind him than he was and was afraid of getting blocked. He probably also expected Ray to be trailing. It was annoying, but that one play isn't what lost us the game.

His confidence in his own socring ability is as low as it has been his whole career IMO.

Sure, make your teammates better, your great at that, but you also make them better by looking for your own aswell.

Keeps the D guessing.

In come the Rose fanboys.

In regards to the OP, it's all confidence for Rondo. He's been avoiding contact in order to not end up at the line. Until what ever has been causing difficulties for him at the line ends, this will be common.

Possibly just nightmares...

In all seriousness, he should have went up, Tony Allen was trailing but I think he had more than a couple steps. Maybe just reflecting on his bad shooting of recent, though I'm sure Doc didn't like it.

I like Rondo, but he is becoming even bigger stat whore than LeBron nowadays.

Wow, I thought Rondo was going to take center stage this year, instead he is becoming an official role player.

I've seen rondo do this a couple of times to get an assist, but this one looks like he was trying not to get blocked.

Not the first time I've seen him do that, there's been other cases that were far worse.
Thank you, Phil.

I think he was trying to avoid getting blocked, but you still have to go up with that.

That's still a relatively high percentage shot, even with a defender bearing down.
Scottie Pippen's response to whom he would pick for his running mate, Michael or LeBron: "That's a dumbass question. I've never done anything with LeBron. I wouldn't take LeBron to the movies."

I noticed this a long time ago and so have a bunch of other posters. Hes afraid because he cant finish
imo. or was looking for a trailer to get an assist.

EDIT #2: There's no need for that.

I'm not one to blame a single player or play for a loss, but with 2 minutes to go and the final score being 90-87, you can't help but wonder what the f*** Rondo was thinking. YES, Tony Allen is behind you, YES you are a poor free throw shooter, YES you are not a strong finisher. But not going for the layup allowed the grizzlies to get back on defense and completely halt any fast break opportunity you had.
