Boston LA tie breaker
We are both have lost 20 games and we have split series. They won by a few more points than us.
Who has home court if we were to meet in the Finals and end season w same record? I think it goes by Lakers record vs. East and Celtics record vs. West.

Re: Boston LA tie breaker
im probably wrong, but I would guess it's the better record in their conference. or better record in their division.

I remember reading somewhere that we have the tie breaker over Boston but not Chicago.

Re: Boston LA tie breaker
I think we would end the season better than Celtics.
But we may want to rest Kobe, Gasol & Fish for a game early April if the Lakers can lock up home court against the East.
I would have Kobe, Gasol & Fish take off April 1st, 3rd and 5th games if the schedule permits and play the Final 5 games so we keep our rhythm.

Umm... You do realize that we're still fighting for home court within our own conference, particularly against either Dallas or OKC in the 2nd round.

Re: Boston LA tie breaker
NBA Playoff tiebreakers
1. Division winner
2. Head-to-head record
3. Record against teams in own division (if teams are in same division)
4. Record against teams in own conference
5. Record against playoff eligible teams in own conference
Divisional stuff doesn't matter in the Finals (obviously), and Lakers split each series 1-1. That takes us to #4.
Lakers are currently 30-11 against conference opponents, which puts them just behind Boston (33-9) and percentage points ahead of Chicago (31-12). Celtics have 10 games left against the EC, Bulls have 9, and they play each other once more in there so at least one of them will drop a game.
I think whoever comes out of the East would win the 5th tiebreaker though, since the bottom half of the EC bracket is so much weaker than the WC.
EDIT: don't mind me, posting the wrong tiebreakers and all

currently, the lakers own the tie-breaker against the celtics but not the bulls. the best record against the other conference is the next tie-breaking criteria.

kevin ding: monster journalist
that said, chicago needs to lose a couple more games. no need to care about tiebreakers if we have a better overall record

Re: Boston LA tie breaker
I'm pretty confident our team can win it all even without HCA in the Finals (or 1st-3rd rounds). They are battle tested and can win anywhere (Miami won't make it that far). I, however, will be more confident if they have HCA against Boston. If Chicago has HCA over us, I won't be too concerned, as they haven't really shown that they can win on the big stage yet and we can win there no problem.

Where is Ding getting his information? He says that the rules are different for the Finals than for the conference playoffs. Surely there is a link somewhere? I don't see anything on NBA.com or other sites.

If he is right, then that is great news. The only team I really want HCA over is the Celtics.
I still feel that they will come out of the East, and even if they don't, the Bulls (especially) and Heat lack the overall experience to really compete with us on the big stage.

Re: Boston LA tie breaker
we do.
record against the opposing conference is the next tie-breaker after head to head record.
the only team in the east that would probably supercede us in the event of a tie-breaker are the bulls.

Ding is just guessing the Bulls will win their 3 games remaining against the west, I don't think they'll win against the Griz or Suns. That'll be the 2 losses we need to tie them.

the bulls dont worry me. theyre too dependent on rose to create for them. in a best of 7 series, that's not gona float. their defense will give them a chance, but they don't have enough firepower, especially from the wing positions besides luol deng.
those guys getting away with murder on defense at home, and the cheat getting bailed out by superstar calls for those 2 and a half clowns is what worries me more than anything.

I think Bos still has a few more stinkers left in them, its that time of the year where they go on their annual late season choke jobs....hopefully we dont let down against the lower end teams, still got Dall and SA on and @Por/Den are the 4 toughest games we have left.

Re: Boston LA tie breaker
Boston's schedule is tough the next 4-5 games:
@ Minnesota
@ Indiana (Back-2-Back)
@ San-Antonio
@ Atlanta (Back-2-Back)
Granted, San-Antonio is without Duncan, they'll put up a fight to prove they potentially deserve the Finals appearance against Celtics. And even though Atl has been sucking, it's a back to back game while Atl is fighting for the 5th seed now with Sixers.
Plus:
@ Chicago
@ Miami
so those two games are plus no matter which way you look at it.
What's important is for Lakers to maintain their wins at home.

assuming lakers and bulls have the same record.
2 losses from the bulls puts the lakers ahead on record and all this tiebreaker talk moot
