Well, for some perspective, our training staff also thought Tyson Chandler was done and wouldn't recover from whatever happened to his toe. He's healthy and playing great for the Mavs now.

Fair enough - their record is pretty impressive though.

It is impressive and I would take our training staff's advice over any other team's in this matter. It was a risky decision and Sarver didn't want to make the risk.

(1) it was a fair offer... 3 years of max money, then the last 2 years are base don amount of MINUTES played. Thats 100% fair for someone like Stoudemire who had KNEE issues.
(2) The problem was, the Suns wasnt able to TRADE for a starter caliber PF. Some fans here are acting as if there was a stud PF available in the FA. I believe the Suns tried to trade for a PF but just didnt have the assets to do so.
Vince Carter's expiring (4 million buy out) SHOULD allow the Suns to get a decent PF.
- Scola (6.5/10 chance)
- Millsap (6.5/10 chance)
- Kirilenko (SF/PF) ( 6.5/10 chance)
- Josh Smith (4/10 chance)

Millsap is on a great deal. Why would Utah move him for cash? Also AK is already an $18m expiring this season.
I think Josh Smith could be a possibility. ATL wants a legit 7 foot C (Lopez) so they can move Horford to the 4. I doubt VC + Lopez + picks would get it done but.

Gee, Stat is scoring bunches in D'Antonti's high flying system. Shocking.
In other news, he still sucks at defense. The Knicks have lost 4 of 5. Tyler Hansbrough of the Pacers scored 29 points (career high) on 20 shots against the Knicks. Two days later, he scored 30 points (new career high!) on 17 shots, again against the Knicks.
Stat has the worst defensive rating on a bad defensive team. The Knicks are 6.42 points per 100 possessions better defensively when Stat is on the bench. His 2-year APM is -2.25...sounds like a max-money guy to me.
Nothing like a little defensive deficiency to remind us how much we miss Amare.

Chris Sheridan, ESPNNewYork.com wrote:Said D'Antoni of the team's defense: "That's going to be our Achilles heel -- that's what we have to get better at."
And so the Knicks now bring a 6-6 record since the Anthony trade and a three-game losing streak into MSG on Thursday night when they face the Memphis Grizzlies to begin a grueling stretch of four games in five nights. And their defense -- or lack thereof -- is becoming such an issue that Charles Barkley and David Letterman joked about it together Wednesday on The Late Show.
The euphoria that accompanied the Anthony trade has clearly subsided, and the Knicks are now looking lost on both ends of the court for prolonged stretches.
Nothing like a little defensive deficiency to remind us how much we miss Amare.

'Yup - this is one case where i can't fault the ownership, and as has beens aid before, we can't judge the decision for another four or so years

Exactly, it looks terrible right now with us needing a PF, potentially missing the playoffs, and potentially moving Nash after this season.
You have to follow the medical advice given, especially on max contract guys.

We turned around and gave 85 million to Warrick, Childress and Frye. So yeah, I'd rather have Amare. How anyone could try and justify Sarver's ineptitude is beyond me.

I still think giving Amare a max deal is very risky, even though I personally would've liked him to still have resigned with us, but giving $85m to 3 average role players over 1 legit star is hard to understand. Frye adds a lot to the team with his spacing and mobility but then you have 2 guys who now has little trade value and doesn't live up to their contract.

yeah, but as Sarver, Gentry, Babbly has stated... having spent 85Million on 3-4 players is much more economically sound than 1 player with a good risk of being injured (hence no trade value) in the future.
3-4 players can be packaged... and as an example... Turkoglu got the Suns Gortat, who is the DOUBLE DOUBLE center with tough Defense the Suns always craved for....
Childress has value... but no one can see it at the moment due to Gentry not playing him.
Warrick is on backup MONEY and has done a decent job as BACKUP PF.
Frye is a 3point shooting big man who has improved defensively.... he is valuable to any teams.

How many guys in this league can do what Childress, Frye and Warrick do? How many guys in this league can do what Amare does? It is much more easier to fill role players for cheap around stars than vice versa. This is all common sense though. Or so I thought. And no one knows how Amare's knees are going to hold up. But I'd rather take a risk on a star than put the same money into being a middling team for the next 5 years. It will hit Sarver when Nash leaves and that arena is empty night after night.

Sarver isn't cheap he just doesn't trust his GM's and makes horrible decisions when he really has no clue about basketball. The times he has spent has mostly been duds like Diaw, Turk, or even Banks. He let JJ, Amare and Marion go though with Marion it was the one smart move the Suns made in not resigning him to a max deal.

Well, we don't know what Childress can do yet with full-starter minutes, I can't judge the guy being given spot time here and there.
Warrick isn't the greatest option and many of us wondered why we were so quick to move on him, but he has shown signs of fitting in our system and playing well from time to time.
However, there aren't many other players in the league who can do what Frye does for the Suns. I think he is actually on a great contract for us and is an important piece if we want to see the Suns rebuild quickly and be competitive once our older players are gone.
Don't get me wrong, I haven't like most of Sarver's moves, particularly the Kurt Thomas abomination of a money dump. But Childress, Warrick and Frye may show to be well-worth their contracts in the future with the Suns.
