Promise made to Jefferson on being part of a Playoff Team

Jazz's Jefferson: "I ain't talking today, man. I ain't got **** to say."

Al's response after the Memphis game seems pretty telling. We all know that DWill is a big talker, but so much for the idea of him making Jefferson an All Star too.

I wonder how Jefferson is feeling about the first year with his new team?

Too bad the guy who "promised" that is in New Jersey now. But I thought the "promise" was to make him an All Star--not be part of a playoff team?

I imagine Al is frustrated like everyone else on the team right now.

I'm sure Al is super-frustrated. But he's still in a better situation than he was in Minnesota, with reason to be optimistic moving forward.

Here is an interesting thought. Rarely is a winning team NOT represented in the All-Star game. Also, rarely are TWO players, from the same small market team, in the All-Star game.

July, 2010 Deron promises to make Big Al an All-Star.
February, 2011 Deron(The Jazz All-Star) is traded to New Jersey.
March, 2011 Big Al establishes himself as one of the most legitimate low-post threats in the NBA.

With Deron now gone, Big Al is the undisputed All-Star on this team. As long as the Jazz are in playoff contention next year, Big Al will get serious consideration for the All-Star game.

So in a round-about way... Deron may actually make Big Al an All-Star after all.

I really feel bad for him. He is a great guy and I was really hoping we could get him into the playoffs this year. The only good thing about it is that maybe it will fuel him to work really hard this off-season and further improve himself.

If I was management I would have a long sit down talk with him about the plan with the team. He needs to see that this organization cares about him and his legacy as a player. Someone here needs to reach out to him and help him understand that we will get him into the playoffs one way or another with this team.

I would also hope that we as fans keep up our energy and attendance to the games. We're the only thing left of what Jefferson was looking forward to and he deserves our support.

I like that he wants to win and his more than a replacement for Boozer as he does blocks shots. But Big Al has never made the playoffs in a league where half the teams make the playoffs. He might be part of the problem why he hasnt made the playoffs. He is a poor defender (though better than Boozer). He is one of the worst passers in the league when double teamed (Boozer was a good passer). He is not a dominant rebounder (Boozer was a dominant rebounder).

I am still happy we have Big Al over Boozer but he needs to work on his game and become a smarter player. Unfortunately, when you are dumb you will likely remain dumb. Big Al, although productive stat-wise, may never be a winner because he is too stupid. Trading Big AL and starting Favors alongside Millsap and Hayward in the front court might be the best idea for this team.

I am not sure we can get anything for Big Al as Minnesota basically got nothing. He has had a strong stat year so maybe we can get sometype of starting player for the SG/SF/PG positions.

You realize that it's not like Jefferson signed here as a FA right? He was traded here, meaning he was already under contract. So what does it matter what was "promised to him"... and the fact is the team he got traded from is still somehow leagues worse than the one he is on right now.

And Al has been to the playoffs ... with Boston

The Bentley is in the shop!

Sucks for Big Al that he will likely miss the playoffs yet again.

I feel bad for Jefferson too. He'll just have to wait for next year.

Big Al can be an All-Star if he could work in the summer on his defense and rebound a little bit better, really if he can improve his defense this guy could be an All-Star every year.

Both Jefferson's and Millsap's rebounding has gotten better as they've gotten used to each other. The thing I like most about Jefferson and Millsap is that they both recognize how disappointing this season was and will put in tons of work this offseason to make sure it doesn't happen again. Favors and Hayward seem to have that attitude too so if all four of those players can come back better than they were this year and Harris gets comfortable with his teammates and the system next year should be much better than this one. I'm stoked.

I'm most concerned with our bench next year. We aren't going to win many games when Jefferson puts up 32 a night and yet we have Ronnie Price being our 6th man with 6 points coming off the bench.

Our bench next year will either have Millsap or an improved Favors. That should help a bit.

Not so sure about Favors and Hayward feeling this way since they haven't been around long enough to know what is expected here in UT like Al and Millsap but I sure hope they all improve in the off season since are playoffs hopes are going to be squarely on their shoulders.
