Does AR's play make Perry Jones an afterthought? They get compared a lot in draft sites.

At this point we have no idea who is going to declare. We have to wait a little bit. It will be interesting to hear what comes out of Irving's camp tomorrow. I have to think he's in for sure.

watched the duke-arizona game....wow, williams is simply incredible...i personally don't see him as a 3 in the least, i think he would be absolutely fine as a 4, i see him as a just overall more talented jeff green type player. i know green is a 3/4 and i'm sure williams could play situationally there but i think he would be a natural 4 in the league. he's gotta be a top 5 pick. irving was obviously outstanding as well.

we could draft him and have the biggest line up in the league
6'4 rubio
6'7 wes
6'11 jones
6'11 randolph
7'1 darko
(love is cut for being to small)

Nah, once Wes has an offseason of dribbling practice he can play the 1 spot and Love being the excellent 3pt shooter that he is can line up at the 2 spot.
6'7" Johnson
6'10" Love
6'11" Jones
6'11" Randolph
7'1" Darko
How can we lose?
"That's why the last two years weren't guaranteed," Walsh said. "Either way, he knew it could have happened either way."

Been telling you, Williams is the real deal. But I agree unfortunately with this:

This is probably a bad comparison but Williamms game reminds me of Griffens a little... of course not as an explosive of an athlete but he can just play and get things done.
Even though I'm a huge supporter of Freddette he has disapointed me during the tournament. Taking dumb shots but I still believe with a good team around he will get more open looks and be even more effective.
Walker also impressive and way better than Flynn... Could be the closer we need but not for our top pick.
Irving... Not high ceiling but his already good so take that for what it means

I love Williams but I don't think you're taking full advantage of his talents if you play him at small forward.

I agree 100% -- and I think that holds especially true for this team.

Already???
I agree. Far too early. Gotta wait until after the national championship at an absolute minimum, and that's still pushing it.
Last year we started in January. Discussing player development and lottery picks is the only thing that gets me through the season. I guess if we're going to start with a clean slate...

If we drafted Derek Williams would we trade Love? I don't think he wants to be here and Williams is already an improvement on D... And a better fit with Rubio.

It's hard to not love Derrick Williams after the Duke game...he is what we want Beasley to be.
There's no way we'd trade KLove for DWilliams. KLove is now the face of the Wolves. If Williams is the BPA when the Wolves draft, and assuming that the Wolves draft him, I think they jam him in at the SF spot and have him play PF in a small ball lineup, basically doing what they do now with Beas.

Nobody wants to be on a team this bad, but we can't trade everybody. You can consider trading Love, but not just to make room for Derek Williams. Love is our only good player, he's a proven good player, so if we trade him we better be getting a proven good player back.

Re: Prospect Watch Thread
I couldn't have been more impressed by Williams last night. If he isn't absolutely lights out, Arizona is out of the game by halftime. Just a note, Irving wasn't so bad himself for a guy on his third game back after missing most of the season.
Ok, who is Williams? My first thought is, as stated above, the Beas we want. They seem to have similar skills and athleticsm but Williams appears to have a high BBIQ, is a hard worker and a leader while Beas kind of drifts in and out of games. Anyone know if he's been measured? I've heard the David West comparison too because they're both slightly undersized PFs and can play on the perimeter but West has a freakish wingspan, almost 7'5", which he uses to make up for his lack of height. Even if Williams measure up a little smaller, I just get the sense he would make up for his lack of height with strength and "want to," although if he measure up short it could affect his defensive capabilities against longer PFs.
To me Williams joined Irving in that top tier in this draft although I still think Irving goes first because PG is a more important position and because he has the "desired" size for his projected position.

Well to be fair, in college Beasley was what we want Beasley to be too. Beasley is apparently really banged up right now. I've decided I'm willing to give him a mulligan on the second half of the year.
I still like Barnes though. I think in due time, he'll be the best pro out of this draft class.

Re: Prospect Watch Thread
Beas was awesome in college, but I never really got the same vibe that Williams gives off, as in the 'I'm going to carry this team on my back through hell or high water and win this game' as he did last night in the Duke game. There was a point in the second half, where Williams dunked on Duke, that you could feel the game turn.
It's hard not to love Williams right now, he spearheaded the effort that took the best team out of the tourney. I think Barnes will likely be a significantly better defender than Williams as a pro, but I think I like Williams total offensive capabilities more than Barnes. Barnes tends to stay in the perimeter during games. We already have that in WJ. I really like that Williams can score from anywhere, especially in the post and especially since Love is a great shooter himself who is at his best at the rim when going for offensive rebounds and not trying to create offense in the post. That said, Love's post game has really improved this year and I can see it getting better, he's a really crafty guy and a hard worker.
I can appreciate giving Beas a mulligan for the rest of the year. He was awesome in the first half of the season, had that great stretch of games. I think the limitations with his current skill set combined with how the rest of the Wolves play allowed defenses to key on him more than they would if the Wolves had other threats. Beasley has shown, at least, that he is somewhat coachable and has battled through a bunch of injuries. Plus, he is playing more minutes as a pro than he ever has, which has to be draining too, and you can argue that he wasn't given freedom to develop until he got to MN, and that his defense isn't great because he's learning a new position that he hasn't complained about having to play with a coach whose team can't gel on defense anyway.
All that said, I think that Beasley is really mercurial, and I'm not sure that I completely trust his first half of the year as his he-can-be-that-all-the-time-way-of-playing. I think this draft is really, really interesting, and I'm really curious to see how it turns out. The Wolves can go a lot of different directions.
