Re: Official Raptors 2011 NBA Draft Thread, Part 4
Kemba Walker has now vaulted his way back into my top 3 for the Raptor Draftboard. With his break down ability hes going to look so much better as a pg in the NBA when he knows he doesn't have to score every bucket. Hes going to be an amazing end of the clock player and would prolly be the best 3pt shooter on the team right away. I have no problems taking him as high as 5 as I think its way easier and better for us to draft him over a project player. His handles and shooting ability should put him on par with some of the other elite pgs in the NBA. For all those Dwill fans i'm just not understanding the logic as a fit for the raps... Hes not a NBA SF. His game is way more suited for the PF position, especially on D. Hes more Blake Griffen/Kevin Love then anyone I can think of as a SF. I throw all the BPA stuff out of the window because we would essentially have to trade 2 of Bargs, Ed Davis and Amir for a rookie. We don't have a clue as to what market is available for those players and we don't truly know if he'll be better than anyone of those players.
So my raptor board is....
Irving
Barnes
Walker
PJones
Pretty much the same players i've had all season.

For those who are interested in college basketball in general and Derrick Williams, I recommend watching these videos.

I will be surprised if Perry Jones gets drafted after Sullinger or falls out of the top 3. He'll impress with his athleticism and skills in workouts and we all know how NBA scouts get excited about any near 7-footer that can walk and chew gum at the same time.

Re: Official Raptors 2011 NBA Draft Thread, Part 4
D Will's offensive game is good but again, he looks like a tweener and if he can't defend the 3 then he's a wasted pick as far as I'm concerned.
I don't mind drafting him if he's BPA but the organization better be damn well sure he can guard 3's. I don't want another offense-first/defense-never type of player in this system.
Anyway, if we don't have the #1 then I hope he enamours another team enough to draft him before us.
I still like Barnes better as a SF prospect.

Derrick Williams will be good and have an immediate impact right from the get go. Unfortunately, he's a 4 and this team is full of them.

Valanciunas
Van Vleet

I don't know why some people think they would be getting an all offense guy in Williams. He reads plays very well and is overall a decent defender. For someone who has to carry his team, his defense is impressive. I think he's also shown more potential as the help defender than Barnes who at this point is just a good man-to-man defender. I think it's just that Williams' role is making him guard 6'10"-7' centers that makes people think he won't play any D on the perimeter. And if we ARE making him into a 3, he can drop a few pounds and gain some quickness.
I also wouldn't have a problem with drafting him as a PF. IMO he's a better prospect than Amir and Davis.

You just described a classic tweener. And Barnes' help D is just as good as his man D, that's one area where Barnes is quite polished.
D will's help D looks good because he cheats off the slower big guys he's guarding. That doesn't make him a good defender, he just knows he's quick enough to cheat. If he tries that ish against NBA SFs he's going to open up lay up lines to the rim.
I have seen nothing in D Will's college game to suggest he can guard SFs and that's the sign of a tweener. Buyer beware, if he can't guard 3's he's an undersized 4 and NBA 4s are monsters.
I'd be extremely concerned with this pick.

Take out Sullinger and Val and that's more or less my top 5.
Not sure if Knight will go that high though and Kanter that low. This is why I want to have an additional pick around 10 because someone's definitely going to fall.

Williams fits in more along the lines of the SF that Colangelo has brought in i.e. Turk, Kleiza, Johnson(before he lost all that weight).
Barnes is my preference too.

I agree except that he might be a bit undersized at PF. Is he a legit 6'9" guy?

Derrick Williams is a clear PF to me. Strength matters more than being an inch or two short and he has that.

This. I really have absolutely no interest in Williams. While I think he will be a productive offensive player in the NBA, his efficiency is going to take a serious hit and his defense is going to be a problem. I see him shooting under 30% from the NBA 3-point line and I don't see him getting nearly as many free throws against NBA defenders. Also, other than contributing to grabbing a few boards, I really think he is a terrible fit with Bargs and Derozan. Calderon, Derozan, Bargs, and Williams would surely be the worst defensive unit in the NBA.
While Barnes is obviously the target at SF, he will more than likely go 1-3 (assuming he declares). If Perry Jones is available at 5-6, which starting to look more realistic, I really don't see Colangelo passing up on him. Also, I wouldn't write-off Terrence Jones as not a potential pick at #5-6, at least not yet. Look for him to have a big game tonight against Ohio State.

Re: Official Raptors 2011 NBA Draft Thread, Part 4
Last time I was three to four months ago I said Kemba Walker is best fit and best player after Kyrie Irving and maybe Sullinger. For the Raps though he should be top 2 since we already have too many young power forwards and getting Sullinger wouldn't make any sense.
1) Kyrie Irving .... Can score, be play maker at the same time ... Chris Paul type of point guard
2) Kemba walker .... he just player ... A.I with some point guard skills, but not the scorer A.I ...the toughs and self confidense is the same as A.I ... My favorite player in the draft
3) Sullinger .... double double guy ... Boozer, Milsap , Elton Brand, Kevin Love type of power forward
4) Barnes Harrison .... risky player ...he could either end up being Battier with offensive game which equals to franchise player, All star, all defensive team, All NBA team, MVPS or he could end as role player like Deng/ Battier/ old grant hill... Either Way if Kyrie and Kemba are off the board he would be best player for the Raps
