He's a bigger risk than most of the guys around him, but great teams become great because they acquire great players. And I think Perry is one of the few guys in the draft with the potential to be great. There are a lot of good prospects in the draft, but I don't see many great ones.

Is that a realgm record for the most times great was used in a paragraph?

I think there's a 60-70% chance that Perry Jones is out of the league in 4 years because his bust rate is so high. He maybe has a 5% chance to be an all-star or better.

He has a great body, but he didn't really look good this year especially rebounding and shotblocking. If you're a 6'11" PF who can't rebound well, doesn't defend and doesn't score then you're like a worse Andrea Bargnani.

He should be. I just don't see the justification for Williams over Irving as the BPA.

I don't think he'll be out of the league at all. I see his downside as someone like Andray Blatche.

once again, I didn't say that the raptors should draft Derrick if they got the first pick; I said that Derrick Williams is now going to be ranked (at this moment in time) as the number 1 prospect. Pushing Irving down.

You see him as a late 2nd round pick who's going to take 4 years to turn into a decent bench player and 6 years to turn into an above average player?

That's some kind of patience from a top 5 pick that you have. I don't have that kind of patience.

BTW that's what I think he's going to be too, but to me that's a terrible pick to me.

I wish they had something like this in the NBA. The Raps would definitely deserve some more compensation for losing Bosh. Hopefully Stern takes this into consideration when fixing the lottery.

NFL ANNOUNCES 32 COMPENSATORY DRAFT CHOICES TO 23 CLUBS

A total of 32 compensatory choices in the 2011 NFL Draft have been awarded to 23 teams, the NFL announced today.

Under the rules for compensatory draft selections, a team losing more or better compensatory free agents than it acquires in the previous year is eligible to receive compensatory draft picks.

The number of picks a team receives equals the net loss of compensatory free agents up to a maximum of four. The 32 compensatory choices announced today will supplement the 221 choices in the seven rounds of the 2011 NFL Draft (April 28-30), which will kick off in primetime for the second consecutive year.

The first round will be held on Thursday, April 28 and begin at 8:00 PM ET. The second and third rounds are set for Friday, April 29 at 6:00 PM ET followed by rounds 4-7 on Saturday, April 30 at Noon ET.

This year, the compensatory picks will be positioned within the third through seventh rounds based on the value of the compensatory free agents lost.

Compensatory free agents are determined by a formula based on salary, playing time and postseason honors. The formula was developed by the NFL Management Council. Not every free agent lost or signed by a club is covered by this formula.

Three clubs this year (Oakland, Seattle and New Orleans) will each receive a compensatory pick even though they did not suffer a net loss of compensatory free agents last year. Under the formula, the compensatory free agents lost by these clubs were ranked higher than the ones they signed (by a specified point differential based upon salary and performance).

Twenty-one compensatory picks were awarded to clubs based upon the compensatory pick formula. By rule, 11 additional choices were awarded at the end of the seventh round to bring the total number of compensatory selections to 32, equaling the number of NFL clubs. The 11 additional picks were awarded to Carolina, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Denver, Cleveland, Arizona, San Francisco, Tennessee, Dallas, Washington and Houston based upon the 2011 draft selection order.

Who has him No. 1? DX and ESPN both still have Irving going first. NBAdraft.net has Williams but they've had Williams at 1 for months now.

Oh, I wasn't suggesting you did. I just don't think any of these mock drafts with Williams as the #1 pick really reflect what GMs think. At least I hope they wouldn't. I just don't see an argument for passing up a point guard that can score, distribute and defend for a forward that still has some questions in terms of his ideal position and his ability to guard. Especially with the way the league is going in terms of being guard dominated. That's for any team, not just the Raps.

No I'm not suggesting that they'll have the exact same career path, I'm just saying at worst he ends up as a player similar to Blatche who, the last I checked, is still in the league.

I knew what you meant the first time. I agree. But again he has some concerns as well.

But Blatche was a late 2nd (picked #49 overall) rounder. To get a guy that you sit on & stash on the bench for 4 or 5 years that late is one thing. Hoffa maybe could have been a find if we drafted him in the 2nd and sat on him for years.

But if you spend a top 5 pick, he has to play and play right away. There's no way around it. Teams get set back by years if you miss on a very high lotto pick.

Is the best player with the most potential in this draft!

I know we have a draft thread but this deserves its own thread because if BC reads these boards he needs to see this. Perry Jones is 6'11, can play SF, has great mobility, ball handling skills, he has a jumper, and he has hops for days.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=quxsxSe1YTo

I'm calling it now, he will be the best player to come out of this draft class, and if we're going to keep Andrea, we need to have as many long, defensive minded, rebounders as possible.

SF: JONES
PF: DAVIS
C: ANDREA

That's a tall, long, and atheletic front court AND having a guy like Perry Jones will help to compensate for the lack of D and rebounded from Andrea.

BC if you're smart, you grab this kid!!!!!!! The perfect player to play along side Derozan and to help Andrea.

You can't have it both ways though. You can't seek out star potential and play it safe at the same time.

I see the concerns but think you are erring way too far. I think his downside is Tim Thomas like, and those types tend to stick around for a long time even if they never live up to their potential.

I have no idea what %s I'd give those alternatives, but I think you're waaay over the top on the first, and at least a bit too low on the second...much closer their, though.

I actually like PJ and I think he's a SF..maybe. I don't think hes gonna bust like many claim. But the question is will he reach full potential and be lol "Great".

I pray to God we don't draft Perry Jones. He is going to be a bust I already know it. I rather we trade our pick for Evan Turner than draft P. Jones. And before you start, Turner isn't a bust, he just doesn't fit in with the 76ers because they already have 3 ball handlers in A.I, Holiday, and Lou Will, and he doesn't have a great shot. This team is missing a play maker (Jose IS NOT a play maker) and I think Turner could easily fill that void, plus he rebounds. I bet he could put up something like 10-15/8/6 daily.

If we don't draft Irving, Sullinger, or Williams I say we trade our pick for ET.

You should have watched some games instead of just Youtube highlights. Perry Jones is NOT a SF. He played PF and C in College this year

http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Perry-Jones-5713/

The weakest part of Jones' game clearly lies on the defensive end. He's shockingly unproductive from a statistical standpoint, averaging an alarmingly low number of blocks and steals every game, and very few rebounds.

Of the 90 NCAA prospects currently classified as power forwards in our database, Jones ranks 78th in defensive rebounding on a per-minute basis, which is extremely disappointing considering his physical tools and the fact that none of his teammates are particularly prolific in this category. He shows fairly poor awareness here, often failing to box out opponents and doesn't look very instinctive or energetic in the way he pursues loose balls.

These attributes definitely translate to the rest of his defensive game, where Jones clearly lacks toughness and activity. He regularly gets lost off the ball, being a step slow to react to things happening on the floor and not putting enough work in early in possessions to stop opponents from getting the ball in a favorable position. Physical players move him around the paint fairly easily and Jones doesn't always respond the way you'd hope. He often allows himself to get outhustled and outworked.

Beyond his poor fundamentals, Jones doesn't seem to be the most contact-loving player in the world. He tends to shy away from putting a body on opponents and isn't one to dive on the floor for loose balls.

I'm for drafting Perry Jones, but he's not a great defender nor rebounder.

I think people are writing off Evan Turner way too quickly. He has more skills than Derozan (ballhandling/passing), he just needs to put it all together.

I was just on the Sac town page. There having talks about potentially trading their pick for veteran talent.
