In before the lock.
Part One is here. Might as well recap your position on this first page before we get back into the scrum.

Re: Draft Thread Continued. 2011 part two...
Well to recap, I would love a 1st round of D.Williams and Markieff Morris. Add a G in the 2nd round (N.Smith?)
Williams is a 3 at the next level. His inside/outside game is perfect for this team. Offensively he can post up, picknpop, oop, spot up, and hit the boards. Good attitude & mentality.
C - McGee, Seraphin, Yi, N'Diaye
PF- Morris, Blatche, Booker
SF- Williams, Lewis, Evans, Martin
SG- Young, Crawford
PG- Wall, Smith
That's 15, no trades or FA.

Re: Draft Thread Continued. 2011 part two...
I don't want Sullinger because he's an undersized no-D PF.
I don't want Perry Jones because he's soft and lacks a motor.
We don't have room for Kyrie Irving (though I'd certainly consider drafting him with the plan to trade him)
That leaves D.Williams, Kanter and Barnes. I like Williams over Barnes. I don't know how to rank Kanter. I'll have to defer to the scouts who get a chance to work him out.
I'm intrigued by Henson and Vesely in a trade down scenario.

Re: Draft Thread Continued. 2011 part two...
Word for word I agree on that one, nate.
Henson is a guy who's got some Timmy Duncan in his game. Would not shock me a bit if he's the best player in this draft because he looks like a real young, and still growing kid. He's skinny but looks to me to be a guy who's going to be big and stronger.
Only thing different nate is I'd still be happy with Sullinger because he's still a far better PF at the next level, undersized and all, than Blatche, IMO.

Re: Draft Thread Continued. 2011 part two...
I now solidly view Derrick Williams as 3/4. His ability to play SF is what makes him a legit top 3 pick and arguably the best prospect in the draft. While he's not a point forward like LeBron or a shot creator like Melo he's got a first step and the ball handling ability to create a shot and make them with insane efficiency. He doesn't remind me of anyone in particular. He's more of a hybrid. A bigger and better version of Danny Granger. David West type build with more explosiveness and versatility.
I don't like Sullinger. I don't care how productive he is in college, he's a 6-7, 6-8 plodder. No lift whatsoever. He'll rebound successfully at the next level but finishing amongst the trees and defending in the paint will be major issues. Mid-first rounder? Yes. Late lottery? OK. Early lottery? No way in hell.
I'm not sold on Harrison Barnes. I don't see this supposed upside. I see an okay athlete with suspect handles who lives and dies by the jump shot and struggles to finish around the rim. Projects to a decent role player on the pro level but not a game changer. Late lottery? OK. Early lottery? Hell no!
I don't like Terrence Jones either. His jump shot is broke. Has a decent skill set for a 6-8 big but he's tweener. Doesn't look like a standout athlete to me. Key question for me is whether his ball handling ability will be neutralized by his lack of athleticism. He looks like a mid-to-late 1st rounder to me at best. Really, he needs to go back to school.
Not crazy about Jonas Valanciunas. Seems like a big time project. Doesn't stand out as a prospect to me. Decent but not great size. Good length but a very thin frame. A decent athlete but nothing special. Not incredibly skilled and doesn't display a great deal of polish or b-ball IQ. Might become something in a few years or might fade into oblivion. Maybe he's worth a flier as a mid-to-late first rounder to stash overseas for a year or two but I wouldn't take him with a top 10 pick.
Right now for me its:
1. SF Derrick Williams
2. PG Kyrie Irving
3. PG Kemba Walker
4. SF Perry Jones
5. CE Enes Kanter
6. PG Brandon Knight
7. PF Jan Vesely
8. PF Jared Sullinger
9. PF John Henson
10. PF Tristan Thompson
11. SF Harrison Barnes
12. SF Chris Singleton
13. CE Jonas Valanciunas
14. PF Markieff Morris

Dat2U, is that your overall ranking of prospects, or your order of preference for a Wizards pick? I can't believe you would take Kemba Walker at #3 if you were picking for the Wizards.

CCJ, I don't want Sullinger, at least not assuming we are in the top 5.
I agree though Kanter and Henson are the 2 X-factors. Kanter there just isn't enough info. Henson there's just no telling if or how he will physically develop.
I want Williams. 2nd choice Barnes.
Then I'd go PF with the ATL pick.

Overall ranking. I love Kemba but I know he's not going to fit with John Wall here.

Sullinger had 21 and 17 this game, in the loss. Still, I can understand reservations. I say he's taller than Millsap. That guy's dropping 35 and even once 47 or so on the Heat. Sullinger won't carry a team through the playoffs but dudes like him bounce guys off them over the 82 game regular season. Sullinger's probably going to tone up, get stronger, and be a beast like Al Jefferson. But I agree, he's not the best fit for the Wizards.
I feel the very same way I've felt since probably early Feb about Derrick Williams. Yep, he'll be good at SF of PF in the pros. He's the guy.
Dat, I see your list and tell you this: Faried is better than Singleton. He's going to be Booker/Mbah a Moute/Rodman all rolled into one. He's not going to have to score to turn a game around because he's freakish. Morehead getting to the NCAAs and advancing, despite his woeful offense, is a testament to how much that guy owns the backboards and defends. Faried is a top-5 talent IMO, if a team wants a defender.
My gut tells me that as good as Booker's playing, Faried's even better and a quality starter at PF, even if he's 6'7" or 6'8" tops.

Re: Draft Thread Continued. 2011 part two...
Kyrie coming back probably knocked Nolan Smith down a few spots in the draft.
Now that Crawford's showing what he has to offer, I'm not so sure if I'm quite as high on Smith, or Charles Jenkins, or Norris Cole. Anybody else think the Wizards might have combo guard and third guard covered? (Assuming Nick is re-signed).

CCJ, that's exactly why I want to go sf w/ the top pick (Williams or plan B Barnes). There will be good PFs at the ATL pick... the Morris twins, Faried, Young, Yarou, Harper, among others could be there.

Just to mention it... Comcast reported tonight Jordan Williams "strongly considering" entering draft.

SUPERBALLMAN wrote:Just to mention it... Comcast reported tonight Jordan Williams "strongly considering" entering draft.
Wow. Agreed there will be other PFs in this draft, now that you mention that.
Derrick Williams to be SF is the best of all worlds.
Barnes ... has hit the big shots and will probably be a very solid pro. But will he be a star? Pedigree says yes, considering his HS and UNC profile, but I'm not convinced. I think Zeller's more polished offensively, Henson's a beast defensively, and Marshall is a great floor general. But how good IS Barnes? UNC struggled with Drew at PG, and I'm thinking Barnes is playing on a loaded team, but has flaws in his game. I think I'd rather see a trade down than select Barnes top-5.
JORDAN WILLIAMS at 23? I'd be crushed if Faried's passed over for Williams. Jordan's an NBA C. Undersized, but a C all the way. He's going to get his shot blocked a ton, but he's serviceable and a strong.
I was hoping Jordan's lousy FT shooting and not making NCAAs or NIT would make him stay in school. Jordan could POSSIBLY be making a huge mistake. He's not a round one guaranteed pick IMO. He should not select an agent.

Production, energy, probably needs to play the 3 and doesn't have experience at it.
Speaking of production, gotta give it up for Zeller yet again. All he does is efficiently dominate while Barnes and (to a lesser extent) Henson get all the accolades. Granted, he's got no junk in the trunk, but if teams can't find a role for a greatly skilled 7 footer who moves well, they need to be more creative. Just because there's nobody to really compare him to in the NBA - doesn't mean he can't be very effective if used wisely.

Re: Draft Thread Continued. 2011 part two...
JB, PJones is soft & was suspended out the tourney. We don't need any more soft knucklehead projects w/ Blatche on this team, as well as mcgee & nick young. Plus I was a 3 w/ that 1st pick.
CCJ, don't get me wrong I don't want Jordan Williams w/ the ATL pick. I am eyeing MARKIEFF MORRIS with that pick IMO. Alt would include Faried, maybe Patric Young.
My whole point, I'd rather go D.Will/Morris or Barnes/Faried & take PF with the ATL pick rather than take Sully, or Jones w/ our 1st pick.

If Sullinger stays, I gotta go all in on Williams. C'mon #2 pick!
