I think most people have accepted that Felton does not want to stay in Denver as a backup. He is a good player and a valuable trade piece. I think it is also unlikely that the Nuggets re-sign all of Smith, Afflalo and Chandler this off-season because they will each demand proably around $8M and they will also have to re-sign Gallo soon. Why not combine Felton and one of Smith, Afflalo or Chandler in a trade to acquire a backup PG, young talent at PF and a wing to replace one of the three that Denver probably won't keep? I think a three team trade could help the Bulls, Nuggets and Blazers.
Denver Out: Chandler, Felton, Anderson
Denver In: Gibson, Korver, Miller
Chicago Out: Korver, Gibson
Chicago In: Chandler
Portland Out: Miller
Portland In: Felton, Anderson, Trade Exception (to even out cap)
Denver Rotation:
Lawson/Miller
Afflalo/Smith
Gallinari/Korver
Gibson/Harrington
Nene/Mozgov
Miller is there for leadership and will probably be willing to take a backup role because he is close to the end of his career. Korver gives you three point shooting off the bench and Gibson gives you a solid defender in the paint who also has potential on offense. This trade could also be arranged so that the Bulls get Miller and the Nuggets get CJ Watson if that is what the Nuggets FO prefers.

Re: Trade Suggestion
Easy no.
We're trading 3 of the 4 best players in the deal. Chicago doesn't even give up anything significant at all.

Re: Trade Suggestion
How is Anderson one of the 4 best players? Gibson can easily start for the Nuggets and Watson and Korver bring solid play off the bench. Felton is leaving, Anderson is redundant, and one of the free agent wings will not stay with the Nuggets.
Bulls or Blazers would also throw in a pick to even out the trade

IF Felton gets traded Harrington will probably be shipped with him, not Chandler. Why build up a good team then trade it away?

I am sure the Nuggets will be willing to trade all their young players for a bunch of aging role players. Exactly what they have had in mind this whole time.

Gee, another teams fan assuming the nuggets are having a fire sale at the end of the year. Denver doesn't want any of the names youve listed. I think the nuggz will be looking for size and good draft pix. New CBA gonna have a lot to do with our offseason moves

Re: Trade Suggestion
And by the way Jordan, eathb was sayn we would be trading three of the four best players. That's assuming you consider taj the fourth best ( behind Chandler Felton and bird) and taj is so good why get rid of him?
Your proposal is absurd and reeks of another big market team thinking they can poach smaller market team's rosters for that one final piece to get them over the hump.
I have an equally reasonable counter offer:
Gets:
Denver: D Rose l Deng Gibson?
Chicago: Gary Forbes. Melvin ely Knicks 2014 2 rounder
Maybe we can meet somewhere in the middle

Re: Trade Suggestion
I am having a hard time understanding the assumptions underlying many of the trade proposals floating around on this forum. For example, there seems to be an assumption that Chandler, Affalo and Felton will not be retained because the Nuggets can't afford them. Aren't the Nuggets under the tax threshold and don't the Nuggets have a large expiring contract in Kmart? As I understand it, both Chandler and Allalo are restricted free agents and generally, teams keep those free agents if they are good players. The exceptions are when restricted free agents are offered more than their value such as what Toronto did with Kleiza. Most teams can't afford to get burnt cap wise.
I think Toronto did.
Both of these free agents are not maximum contract types. Value is always hard to determine but given the fact that both Chandler and Affalo have played well and extensively, it is far more likely they will be tendered and kept. Any reasonable offer will be matched. I think it is also likely that both will be extended for reasonable amounts at some point.
Felton is under contract for next season and it is likely that he will play here next season unless someone offers a trade proposal that can't be refused. The fact that Felton has played well when the game is on the line, leads me to guess that he is staying in Denver in the future and will be part of a formidable point guard combination. This will depend on how well this combination plays against quality opponents during the playoffs. The fact is that Felton is very good defensively and probably a better point guard than Lawson at this point for that reason. I do think Lawson has star written all over him in time.
The big question marks are about J.R. Smith and Kmart as unrestricted free agents and Nene with a player option. If Kmart accepts a reduced contract they might just keep him. He fits here. If he doesn't accept a reduction, he is likely gone. His contract is huge and either losing him or having him come back on a lower salary is going to be helpful to the Nuggets who can then use those leftover amounts to retain their own free agents. If he leaves, his defense will be missed but there are always a number of power forward options available with lower contract demands. He certainly is not worth his current contract.
J.R. Smith is an enigma. He can be so great but so out of control within moments. I don't know what his value is but he is on a good contract currently and a decent raise could be given to him under the above scenario without loss of other players as being suggested by some. Many teams are going to be hesitant to offer him a large contract given his history. Again, I think he stays for a sensible pay raise.
Given the possibility of a labor lockout, Nene will probably not use his player option. If he does, Denver is in a good position to offer him a excellent deal, as much as anyone. He is not a max player but he is valuable and Denver already pays him a big salary. I remember well when many argued that he was overpaid.
Another argument is that Denver has too many players and can't pay that much money to so many. Does Denver need to free up slots and therefore must trade someone to create room? If their contracts are reasonable and can fit into the salary structure, I say that you can never have too many good players. Now if a max type player is being traded to Denver later, then having extra pieces for such a trade may not be such a bad approach.
In the end, I think it more likely that the Nuggets keep their squad intact with the exception of Kmart depending on his demands.
Now, if Denver decides that it can land a near max free agent that will upgrade the club then it is goodbye Kmart and Smith.
I think Toronto did.

Canned in Denver.
