I think it's a mistake for him to stay in school though. My guess is that he'll show little improvement next year (he's already so polished) and he'll end up dropping some in the next draft.
Yup, Barnes/Irving/Sullinger all staying in school will cost them millions. They have holes in their game that just aren't going to be fixed with more time in college...Barnes(Unathletic), Irving(lacks quickness), Sully(height). All of them are projected top 6ish. Their stars will fade with the next wave of freshman. If Terrance Morris taught us anything it's that you gotta cash in while you can.
A guy I met back in the day, Albert King, made a similar mistake staying that extra year. no D, I agree they're making a financial mistake and probably won't get that much better.
One guy, Henson, seems to me would really improve with one more year, but he better not leave today's money on the table, either. Only if you've got it like Tebow did coming back should you stay IMO. Love of school can change with an NCAA probation, a coach getting fired, or some kind of injury/catastrophe a la Hank Gathers.
I'd only say it's a leap of faith to say you want that final year. Sullinger loves school so let him stay, but he better be able to accept whatever happens. What I ALWAYS see is what happened to Kyle Singler (and to Albert). Familiarity breeds contempt. Draft sites get to know a player's weakness and they always seem to like flavor-of-the month/johnny-come-lately freshman more than seniors. Makes NO SENSE to me, other than perceptions of upside improvements. However, when guys like Faried and Singler stay, even if they have great seasons and their teams advance their draft stock stays where it is.
I woud think Jenkins and JaJuan Johnson will be like Booker--ready for the NBA, but they won't likely luck out and get picked round one.
If Sullinger stays it's almost certain to cost him millions as he sinks in the draft, and as he doesn't make this year's money. Kobe's rich a zillion times over and he came in at 18.
