He was way overhyped because he shat on American kids that were in ODP (olympic development program). He went pro at the age of 14 (huge mistake) and still isn't that old right now (21) yet it feels like he's been around for 15 years.

I think the bigger mistake was leaving United. He was good enough to start and be a top player in the MLS. He was also liked enough to do that. He wasn't good enough to play elsewhere. His career was stunted by his lack of playing time. I still think he could turn it around with a return to the MLS. I watched him in the youth world cups and the olympics and he was a legit player. He just needs minutes.

Word, I said earlier in this thread that I think he should go back to the MLS.

Watched an exhibition match between UCSB and DC United last night. Charlie Davies came on in the second half, didn't look terribly sharp, but didn't really see too much of the ball either. The only thing of note was him getting in a confrontation with one of our defenders, went chest to chest with some barking.

Is Davies legit... and I mean that by his performances pre-accident. I haven't seen him play. How good was he and could he be potentially in comparison to Altidore?

Before his injury he was what we've needed up top since Wynalda. Quick yet talented with a lot of room to improve. I'd say he was probably better than Altidore, but the real strength with him was that he complimented Altidore's skillset perfectly. He was the lightning to Altidore's thunder.

This just in... Messi is really good. He earns a free kick from about 25 yards. Tim Howard dropping F bomb at his wall

USA really getting some chances here. I don't know if theyre defense will hold though, Argentina is just too talented.

yep, great effort. great work to make it through halftime only down 1 and a great display by howard.

bad games from dempsey and donovan, but a nice 2nd half from jozy. i think the juan pairing might be really beneficial to him.

Agudelo seemed like he was the only one doing much when he came in, he was flying around and had more than just the goal he had some other scoring chances. Too harsh on Donovan, he made the delivery on the goal, a perfect one and the header got stopped, Agudelo just got the rebound.

Like everyone said, great result would like to see how they do against Spain. The team needs osme work, the strategy of just blitzing Messi will not work if Argentina was at full strength with Tevez, Higuan etc. but the game was a good stepping stone nonetheless.

I dig the Agudelo/Altidore duo for the US. When is their next game?

Next game is Tuesday. Need to see a lot more minutes from Agudelo before I can trust that he is the answer. That being said I actually think his performance was underrated. The goal was a lot better than people are giving him credit for. He had patience and had a reallytight window to work in. The keeper was right at the ball. He also played well with the ball even when he didn't have scoring chances. That is something I can't say for Jozy.
In other news I liked chandler and hated Jones. Jones did nothing defensively and gave the ball away on every touch. I really hope that was the last of him for a while at least.

Najar has chosen Honduras. Too bad.

No surprise there, watching his press conference was painful

U.S. roster was announced for the Gold Cup and the match against Spain. Biggest surprise was probably Adu. A few big names left off: Demerit, Chandler, Gonzalez, Bunbury and Davies. Davies is hurt again so no surprise there and I hear Chandler was hurt and tired.
I'm actually ok with Adu. The core players will be playing before him unless he proves himself at camp. He still has potential to help us out. I'm a bit of an optimist but we won't know until he gets time.
Your thoughts?
