OKC tallest team in the league?

Post#1 » by fallacy » Sat Jul 17, 2010 8:51 am

I saw this on the Bull's forum. They were talking about how they thought they were a tall team and were talking about how it helps them, I didn't want to troll over there so I made my own thread here. It made me think about how long of a team as a whole is, for example:

Bulls: 399 total inches

Rose, 6'3
Brewer, 6'7
Deng, 6'9
Boozer, 6'9
Noah, 6'11

Thunder: 401 total inches

Westbrook, 6'3
Thabo, 6'7
Durant, 6'10
Green, 6'9
Kristic, 7'0

Lakers: 398 total inches

Fisher: 6'1
Kobe: 6'6
Artest: 6'7
Gasol: 7'0
Bynum: 7'0

Magic: 392 total inches
Nelson: 6'0
Carter: 6'6
Pietrus: 6'6
Lewis: 6'10
Howard: 6'10

I didn't realize how long we are as a team. You plug in who should be our real PF in Ibaka and we're even longer. This team has crazy potential on the defensive end due to it's huge wingspan and overall height. I can see now why, even though we don't have a dominant shot blocker (Ibaka will be when he starts), we led the league in blocked shots last year. Man, i love how this team is assembled.

Just thought i would share some knowledge with the other OKC fans in here

Cool stuff! Great post and lot of truth in it.
However, the Lakers are still bigger, because Gasol has an advantage over Green clearly and Bynu is also bigger than Krstic, even though they are both 7-0.
Durant is the only player on our team who is a tall player on his position, noone else.
I love this team's athleticism, but our hight is another thing. If you would have a competition of every team's starting PF and C going against other team's PFs and Cs and battling/jumping for rebounds, our team (Krstic and Green) would do pretty bad.
Thats why we need Ibaka to start and why Aldrich will be hopefully an upgrade to Krstic.
Life may not be the party we hoped for but while we are here we might as well dance!

Durant and Thabo are both the longest players at their positions (reach, not height).

Green is 6'9" but his reach is the same as James Harden.

We might be taller than the Bulls but they are probably longer.

yeah that's one anomaly I don't get. How does Green have a 7'1" wingspan but only a 8'7" standing reach?

I'm more curious about their standing reach. Because we all know you don't grab a rebound with your head.

I'm praying the starting line up is (Standing reach)
PG Westbrook 8'4"
SG Harden 8' 7.5"
SF Durant 9'2"
PF Ibaka (I saw but not confirmed 9'3")
C Aldrich 9'3.5"

6th Green 8'7"
7th Thabo 8'11.5"
8th Maynor 8'1"
9th Collison 9'
10th Mullens 9'3"
11th DJ White
12th Weaver
13th Mo Pete
14th Cook
15th Nenad

I don't really want to see Nenad take minutes away from the rest of these guys. But on the flip side I want the best players on the floor and I hope that Cole EARNS the starting spot.

I think Aldrich has a decent enough shot to hit a 15ft wide open jumper.

So I know we are all crossing our fingers that Cole will be the man in the middle and their has been some questions about the guys height. But I thought this was interesting.
Here are Cole Aldrich pre-draft measurements compared to Oden's.

Oden w/o shoes - 6'11"
Aldrich w/o shoes - 6'9"

Oden's wingspan - 7'4. 25
Aldrich's wingspan - 7'4.75

Oden's weight - 257
Aldrich weight - 236

Oden's standing reach - 9'4
Aldrich's standing reach - 9'3.5

Oden's body fat - 7.8
Aldrich's body fat - 8.5

Oden's No Step Vert - 32 (Max vert - 34)
ALdrich's No Step Vert - 23 (Max vert-28)

Oden's lane agility - 11.67
Aldrich's Land Agility - 11.48

Oden's 3/4th court sprint - 3.27
Aldrich's 3/4 court sprint - 3.35

Oden crushes him in the no step vert but everything else Aldrich is hanging right there with him.

Good signs.

My preferred Kings Lineup

PG Evans 6'6
SG Francisco 6'7
SF Greene 6'11
PF Thompson 6'11
C Cousins 6'11

Kings: 406 Inches

Bench:
Casspi 6'9
Dalembert 6'11
Landry 6'8
Beno 6'3
Whiteside 7'0

We went from Shortest to Tallest.

Those are terribly numbers for Aldrich compared to Oden, Odens a good 2 inchs taller, Oden weighs twenty pounds more and has lower body fat percentage, and a much better vvertical (max was 35 for the record).

Their similiar in wingspan, and speed but thats it.

Aldrich will be good though, Kendrick Perkins clone.

Ibaka is slightly taller than Durant. So whatever Durant is, plus one inch for Ibaka

ESPN has Durant, Ibaka, and Perkins listed as 6-9, 6-10, and 6-10 respectively.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of a team with more length. Even if you sub in Harden for Thabo.
