Any chance Sloan or Johnson will pull a Jay Leno?

Post#1 » by finnegan » Tue Mar 29, 2011 6:36 am

Knowing Sloan, the chances of him returning seems low. However; Phil Johnson still lives in SLC, and it would seem that there's an outside chance he would be willing to return to the helm, if Corbin continues to struggle.

I am hopeful that Corbin can figure it out, and would hope that he would be retained as an assistant. I felt it was a mistake for the Jazz to immediately promote Corbin to Head Coach, rather than keeping him as the "Acting Head Coach" until the end of the season, but I won't go on a tirade of how the Jazz keep making one mistake after another.

Since Corbin is contractly signed as the head Coach, the Jazz may have no choice in bringing back Johnson or Sloan without firing Corbin. Since neither Sloan nor Johnson would accept Corbin being fired as a condition of their return, Corbin would have to agree to return to being an assistant. Maybe Corbin would react like Conan did and be completely incensed, but then again maybe he wouldn't.

I am really not sold on Corbin as the coach so far, making a lot of mistakes, disputes with players it seems, playing guys like Raja too much. I know I'm jumping to a conclusion to quickly, but so far I haven't been sold on Ty.

Time well tell though.

You really think sloan would come back to this mess of a team. Lose to the friggin wizards? That's not on just the coach.

Corbin is an awful coach and it was obvious from the very beginning.

Doesn't matter what my top choice is. Get over it, Sloan and Johnson are gone. Corbin is signed through next year and he's our guy right now. As much as it hurts to admit, we're rebuilding now. Sounds like Corbin is finally gonna give the young guns some burn, so sit back and enjoy watching them develop for a bit and CHILL

It's so ridiculously short-sighted to call Corbin a horrible coach already. It's not his fault Jefferson and Bell are being whiny biathces. I thought playing the rooks late last night was a great move that Sloan never had the balls to do. Numerous times, Sloan deflated runs and hot streaks by taking out the players that were making it work for the "veterans" or whoever the hell was making the most money. It takes balls for Corbin to do what's right at the expense of the primadona, "you owe me" so called "leaders" of the team.

And I'm tired of Bell as much as anyone...but there have been times when playing him was just the right decision defensively (vs. Kmart against Houston).

He's definitely going to screw up some more though, so pull out your whips, vindictive glares and turn on your computers...I have a feeling we're going to see a lot of "Fire Corbin!" threads over the next year.

Give the man an offseason to fill his staff and roster with his image. I will comment on Ty after next year. Until then lets see who wants to be here and who doesnt!

No you're right, he hasn't up and said anything or alluded to anything vocally. What bothers me is that I thought he might become the positive leader this team needed when he's actually more pissy and surly than even Dwill. You can be frustrated without making a display of it and treating people like shiz.

I'll take "No comment." over "That's why I signed a three year deal." any day. I don't recall John Stockton being bubbly after losses.

Corbin is trying to learn on the job to be a head coach. We need an expierenced coach. Send Corbin to the D league or college to learn to be a head coach.

We need a coach that knows the ropes not one who is learning. This is the NBA for hells sake.

First-time head coaches excel in the NBA all the time. A few examples from this year and last: Tom Thibodeau, Scott Brooks, Monty Williams.

I think they often do better than a lot of the retreads that are available to hire any given year.

Look at how Scott Brooks did his first year: 22-47 as a replacement for PJ Carlesimo. The next year OKC went 50-32 and he won coach of the year. OKC didn't have substantial roster changes between those two seasons.

Jerry Sloan has not closed the door on making a return to the bench, though he won't actively campaign for a new job.

If presented with the right opportunity, Sloan would consider taking another head coaching position in the NBA.

The 69-year-old Sloan left the Jazz mid-season after the team's play deteriorated and there was a reported spat with Deron Williams, who was subsequently traded to New Jersey.
