9 teams interested in Nash

Post#1 » by Revived » Thu Mar 31, 2011 2:43 am

The Phoenix Suns front office may refer to Steve Nash as ‘the sun, the moon and the stars' of the organization but that doesn't mean a re-aligning of the heavens can't take place this offseason.

According to ESPN's Chad Ford, there are at least nine different NBA teams interested in Nash and willing to make a decent offer for him.

" Lots of teams interested," Ford told fans during a chat. "New York, Dallas, Portland, Orlando, Atlanta, Charlotte, Toronto, Houston, Utah ... there's a pretty big market for him."

Ford went on to say that the Suns can expect to get a young player and a draft pick in return from many of the teams but that not all of them have the assets to make it work.

It's not clear whether Lon Babby and the front office has any intention of actually dealing the two-time MVP but the market for him sounds significant at this point.

While Nash's performance hasn't dropped off much over the last few years, it's only logical that the day is coming soon. Babby admitted the Suns need to get ‘younger and more athletic' and the fastest way to do that is by dealing the one asset they have at their disposal.

Nash's contract is up at the end of the 2011-12 season and if the team doesn't plan on extending that deal they might as well start the rebuilding process and get something in return for him.

That is if they learned anything from the entire Amar'e Stoudemire situation.

(Please don't lock this thread. I know there's an off season thread but something as important as this does not deserve to get buried in the thread, thank you)

I can see Portland, Houston, Minnesota, Toronto, and maybe Dallas making decent offers. I wouldn't be surprised if he was dealt this summer at all. Although I wouldn't be surprised if Sarver tried to milk him for even more money...

Not really. I'm not saying this is fake, but that I believe there was a VERY similar article near the trade deadline.

That's encouraging to hear. Interested as to what PDX, ATL, and TOR can offer.

I think it was from the daily dime live yesterday... So here are some situations I'd say "not bad" to..

Tor- Nash and our pick for Calderon, someone else (they're building around Derozan and Davis it seems... Weems? Bayless?) and their pick

Por- Nash for Oden, etc, a pick

Dal- for Roddy Buckets + pick

Hou- Bundinger or Courtney Lee or Terrance Jones + Pick

Min- Nash and our pick for AR and their's

Anything that puts us in the top 5 of the draft, I'd expect to give our pick for

Edit: Por- Oden, Luke Babbit + pick

I like this one:

Nash, Lopez, our first FOR

Bargani, Bayless, and their first ( 4 or 5)

With that we draft Kemba or Knight

es to NY if they will take on Warrick's contract and will give us their 2011 1st rd pick & Fields.

Yes to Dallas if they trade their 1st rd pick + Roddy B.

No to Portland unless they give up Matthews or Batum.

No to ORL

Yes to Atlanta if we can land Josh Smith.

No to Charlotte

Yes to Toronto for Davis + pick.

Houston has some good young players...I would take Patterson and a pick or Lowry.

No to Utah

Portland: Batum/Oden/1st

New York: They cant afford him.

Dallas: Beaubois/Terry/1st

Orlando: Neson/Orton/multiple 1st's for Nash/Lopez

Atlanta: Smith/Teague for Nash/Lopez

Charlotte: Thomas/Augustine/1st for Nash/Lopez

Houston: Hill/Williams/Thabeet/1st for Nash/Lopez

Utah: Harris/Favors or Harris/Milsap for Nash/Lopez

Toronto: Bayless/Johnson/Johnson/1st for Nash/Lopez

But see,i think its old info as half these teams have solved their PG problems at the trade deadline. NY got Billups, Atlanta got Hinrich, Utah got Harris and will be drafting Jimmer, Houston got The Dragon.

I think to make any deal with Utah, we would have to end up with a worse record than them, draft Jimmer right before their pick, than offer them a trade including the draft pick swap.

Kemba or Knight with the 4th or 5th pick seems to be aiming pretty low. I think we could do much better than that. Valanciunas, Kanter, Jones, and Barnes could all be available there. Next year, when we'd probably be picking in the top 5 with our own pick so I'd rather wait for Austin Rivers

I like the Roddy and pick as well as the Batum plus a pick ideas. Batum's more expendable now that they have Wallace too. Portland might want Lopez back in that situation, which I'd be fine with.

Charlotte doesn't have their pick this year, and Gerald Henderson's all I'd want from them, which just isn't worth it. I doubt Atlanta would give us Smith for someone so old, and they don't have their pick either this year

Yes they do, the pick was Lottery protected. Thus them aiming at getting Jordans man, Kemba Walker.

Toronto isn't gonna give up a #4 pick for a 38 yr old Nash.

Best bet is to look at Portland

This. We are seriously overvaluing him here.

Didn't know it was lottery protected. Thanks for the info. Makes it a bit more interesting but I'm still gonna agree with the canuck here

Portland can give us reasonably talented players without damaging their own future really. They've got their own glut of wings now with Wallace, Batum, Babbit, Matthews, and Fernandez. Most of which are under 25

Yeah bro, I'd be throwing a party if they offer GREG ODEN ALONE for STEVE NASH.

No one's saying people should give up the farm for Nash, because they wont, but honestly, saying that you'd be happy with an injury-riddled failure such as Oden as the ONLY compensation for one of the best players in NBA history, especially one who can still play at that level, is ridiculous.

Oden - no, never. He's 40+ years old and injury prone

For the Suns, the best way to fix things is a Toronto trade incl. Raps pick. Gives more options at draft day (i mean an asset in trade for experienced player or even a star or starlet at draft day or possibility of high-picking). Calderon is great option for Suns, too, as we are going to change diametrally our system next season without Nash.

2nd best option for Suns is MIN, same reason.

Then, Atlanta & JSmoove. You all know why :)
