Jamario Moon needs to start over Gomes

Post#1 » by Leor_77 » Thu Mar 31, 2011 6:00 am

EJ definitely had a bad game tonight, but he can have a couple off nights, considering that we already know what he's capable of. I'm really sick and tired of Gomes, though. During the beginning of the game when we were building a nice lead, I think he missed like four open shots. We probably could have had at least a 15-18 point lead if he just made a couple of them. I'm not sure why VDN keeps starting him, considering he keeps on failing. I'm also not ready for Aminu to play heavy minutes. He shows occasional glimpses, but just isn't consistent at all, and is very turnover prone.

I know that it's silly to bring up stats since he hasn't played that much with the Clippers, but Moon is currently 44% FG and 46% at 3-pt shooting with us (more importantly, you can see his effectiveness without stats). I know VDN likes to play the 3-guard rotation, but I'm not so sure I like that for more than just a small amount of time. IMO, Vinny needs to make a stand if a player is continually failing.

Also, on a related issue, I think DJ should be starting over Kaman. Is he better than Kaman? Not really...But he's a much better fit with Blake. I don't want to say that Kaman and Blake are redundant, but lets just say they're both better offensively than defensively - plus they both need the ball in their hand to be effective. I would rather see DJ's defense, rebounding, blocked shots and general "off the ball" production, and give Kaman free reign to come in to produce when Griffin goes out.

Gomes is a 3rd stringer at best. I'd rather see Novak out there hit wide open shots even if he didn't play D!

Gordon's struggle has to do with him being the 3rd or 4th option. Griffin, Kaman, and Mo take majority of the shots so EG tends to force things when he gets the ball. Even Mike Smith pointed out that EG looks lost. I think DJ starting is a good idea and Mo should look to dish more than shoot. For some reason he doesn't like passing it to EG.

I wouldn't mind Moon starting. Gomes has been struggling for what seems like a quarter of the season.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

I think VDN starts him because he's the glue guy and can provide some defense and rebounding. He knows the system, it's just that he's not taking advantage of any open looks he gets. But then again, he doesn't take many shots a game, so it's not like he's hurting the team a lot if he doesn't score. So if he goes 1-3 or 0-4, it's not like if EJ or Williams go 5-15 or 4-12.

I've seen Moon play quite a bit when he was with the Raptors. I think defensively, Moon and Gomes are not far from each other. Moon has long arms and is pretty athletic. He also doesn't take too many shots, but he can hit a three every now and then. I'd actually want to see him take more of Gomes minutes and start for a few games. He also has hops so he can catch alley oops and finish (not as good as Blake though, lol).

Gomes is so inconsistent. I would like to see how Moon does starting. At the very least, he should have more chemistry with Mo.

Moon may get his chance. Vinny is considering shutting down Gomes for the rest of the season, while he rests his knee.

I'm not going to go too far, but somehow Moon starts and we win against OKC...Coincidence? Maybe. But it sure helps to not have someone who can't play defense and can't hit a shot consistently. From interviews, Gomes is simply the nicest guy out there, but I hope the Clippers get rid of him, even if it is for nothing in return.
