ATL/DAL: Joe for Terry
Joe Johnson for Terry and filler
Joe is not that great, but is still as good as a prime Michael Finley, and Dirk's window is getting smaller and smaller every year.

Re: ATL/DAL: Joe for Terry
Basically the question is do I want to pay 20 million dollars per year for Joe Johnson... And the answer is no. Ill take my chances with Caron Butler for much less. JJ's contract has 'Allan Houston' written all over it

Houston ain't touching that contract. JJ is untradeable as crazy as that sounds for an all star 2, which I definitely think he is.

I would gladly take Joe Johnson over Jason Terry. Joe actually plays defense.

Terry is a permanent fixture in Dallas until the day he chooses to retire.

It's not my money, so if Cuban did this I would be happy. But I doubt he does.

Re: ATL/DAL: Joe for Terry
JES will argue til he is blue in the face that Terry is equal to Johnson. Terry contract makes him a better fit in dal. He will back it statistically, so I am convinced that this is not a good mavs trade.

JES hasn't chimed in for a while. Did his arrogant attitude and condescending verbage finally get him suspended?
I agree that the hypothetical trade idea is not good for an overpaid, yet talented, 2 guard.

JJ three or four years ago, hell yea, now, no way. JR Smith is a free agent and would be at the top of my list for the MLE. Arron Affalo would also be a nice pickup. Mavs have big decisions this summer with Butler and Chandler. If they resign Chandler, Haywood must go.

Re: ATL/DAL: Joe for Terry
If Haywood and Jones were the filler?
Even then I think the money is just too great but I would like to see how the CBA is going to effect salaries before no was said to this trade.

I also don't see the Hawks trading Joe Johnson. I highly doubt they consider Josh Smith or Al Horford 1st options and ready to carry a team.

Ok, I play along. Size and defense matter, so absolutely to Joe. Besides, Joe is an ALL-STAR (as in present tense) and JET is not.

Sign me up for this one. We get someone taller than 6'3'' to defend SG's and a reliable second scorer. Any motivation to make this move from Atlanta's perspective has to be financial and I'm not sure that's enough for the to pull the trigger. The filler would likely have to include at least one first rounder.

@Cat...I don't think they are the same talent wise because Joe is a better rebounder and a better passer from a set spot and when double teames, but Terry is much, much more active....even defensively cuz JJ does nothing but keep his hands near his hip and watch the rest of his team play defense.

you do know that when Joe was with the Sun, he was the team's defensive stopper, he was the guy who made Tony Park shoot .300FG in the playoff series, and before Lebron, Wade would struggle against Joe and shoot around .430FG (Wade's career average is .480). you can argue the quality of Joe's defense, but he really is not the guy who stands around while other guys play defense, especially when Bibby was on the team, even though Joe is the #1 option for the Hawks, he was still asked to guard the other team's best perimiter player, even last year and previous years against the Magic, he was asked to guard Jameer Nelson.

Re: ATL/DAL: Joe for Terry
When Joe was a Sun....was Parker even relevent at that time? Anyways, I can come up with countless examples of a player shooting bad against one team and then point to the worst defensive guy on the other team and claim he was a "defensive stopper" when he wasn't. Joe has done crap defensively the last 3 years for sure and I have been watching close TRYING to see what some claim about this guy and everytime I do, he is BURNED by the guy he was "asked to defend" only to have Crawford, Evans and Williams end up defending them because Joe does not know the meaning of the word defense. He is always about 7-12 feet away from his assignments because when he is closer, they break his ankles while blowing past him, his hands are always near his body instead of trying to distract the offensive player, he never steals or blocks anything and he just all around sucks arse on that end of the court. I have literally watched this guy stand still for just about the whole 24 second clock with no one around him while the other 9 guys (including his defensive assignment) are all playing basketball; he is either lost or lazy or both defensively. On the offensive end, he is as inconcistant as Terry.....but at least Terry shows up in the 4th unlike Johnson.
And here is the thing that must frustrate Hawk fans....he has the body to be a Paul Pierce, but his heart and effort is almost Kwame Brown like....If you put Barea's heart in Joe's body, you may get a Paul Pierce, but Joe of the last 3 years is closer to Jason Terry than anything else. I would rather have Shannon Brown than Joe Johnson even before concidering contracts [edit: well, at least defensively even though offensively Shannon is not too shaby himself].

you obviously don't know what you are talking about and never watch a Hawks game if you are saying that Crawford and Evans gives effort on defense.
and since you don't know about Hawks basketball, then it is obvious that you don't know about Spurs basketball, because Tony Parker was 17/6 that season

Re: ATL/DAL: Joe for Terry
It is funny how your response addressed two things I didn't say.
The Spurs one was a question as I did not watch too many JJ as a Sun vs Parker matchups. Question....not statement.
And I also never said Crawford or Evans "give effort" on defense. What I said was "only to have Crawford, Evans and Williams end up defending them because Joe does not know the meaning of the word defense." That was not a compliment ot the defensive effort of any player in Atlanta, but the coach sure had to switch up the defensive assignment because Joe just wasn't cutting it. And usually, they (particularly Evans) DID play better defense than Joe.
And as far as the count of games....about 20 regular season games plus all the playoff games is pleanty for a team that is not the Mavericks. That is a quarter of their season and more than enough for me to say that Joe is a horrible defender and completely over-rated if anyone thinks he is a decent defender.
