Who do you guys think will shoot up the lottery during workouts?

I think Kanter, Perry Jones and Brandon Knight could improve their stock a fair bit.

Probaby the three you mentioned, Rhett.

Jan Vesely could be another guy, although I don't know too much about his contract status in terms of a buyout.

Valanciunas' agent says lockout threat makes it more interesting for JV to enter the draft.

normally its not guys who are top lottery picks who shoot up, but guys projected in the middle of the first round end up as lottery picks. Of the lottery picks though, Enes, Perry and the euros will shift the most based on the workouts.
Probably super athletic guys or
maybe the Morris twins or someone like Kawhi will move into the lottery though?

The draft is impossible to predict. What people are discussing is given everything we have seen, what the current draft order should look like.
This thread is not making a prediction for in 5 years from now, who are the best players from the draft class. Frankly, that concept makes no sense.

Consider this statement: "wow, you're an idiot, you had Pittsburgh over Butler, obviously you know nothing about basketball because Butler is in the final four for the second time in 2 years now".

Nah, the point is don't talk in absolutes. This thread is for discussion. Mufasa talks like he's miss cleo.

It's one thing to like a prospect but it's another to act like you're 100% on what that prospect could be. Same with not like a prospect. Eg, I think D Will is a tweener that's why I don't want him but I won't say that D Will is definitely a tweener in the NBA, for all I know he's the next great SF or PF.

Same thing happened with you earlier in the season, you came in here and started talking in absolutes and that doesn't sit well with people.

Outside of Kyrie Irving & maybe Derrick Williams (possibly the 1st & 2nd pick), which 2 players do you see making a difference for this team next season? (ie. which player increases our win %)

My two guys are Kanter & Kemba Walker.

The draft is not impossible to predict. If this were the case, why wouldn't GMs simply pull names out of a hat in order to determine who they should select?

This thread isn't about predicting who will be the better long-term NBA prospect? You do realize this is the "NBA Draft Thread," don't you?

Yeah I think both of those guys can be pretty productive right away. Guys like Valanciunas/P.Jones/Knight could have higher ceilings, but you'll probably have to be more patient with them.

I want Vesely and Rubio. Or Leonard and Rubio. Or Kanter and Rubio. Or Irving. Maybe Knight and that's about it.

every single prospect has a certain chance at becoming a great player in this league. Every single prospect has a different ceiling with a different amount of potential.

Very little is concrete. You could spend all the time in the world with an infinite amount of resources, and you will never get even close to predicting in five years time, how the draft order should have gone.

I'd be happy with any of Irving, Williams, Barnes, Knight, Kanter and P. Jones. I wont complain if we pick any of those guys.
I can see knight and Walker climbing people draft boards but more so Knight cause of his physical attributes. To come in as an 18 year old and lead a Kentucky team with out Kanter to the Final 4 is pretty impressive. I think he could quite possibly solidify a top 5 spot in the draft if he is able to beat UConn this saturday.

lol

1. no one is ripping on Mufasa. I'm just merely pointing out that his ability to accurately assess talent is below par, therefore his opinion should carry less value than others. he is a good poster though.
2. obviously, no one knows who will be a bust and who will be a HOFer. but that doesn't mean people should speak as if their opinions are the absolute truth. and it's fair to call out the people who speak in that manner, especially if their predictions (more so their ability to evaluate talent correctly) end up being totally wrong. again, there is a difference between saying "I think so and so will be a role-player at best" and saying "So and so will be a bust", the latter of which is a statement that justifies being vilified if proven incorrect.
3. that poor analogy has been considered, and it's barely worth responding to.

but here would be a more appropriate version; "wow, you're an idiot, you bet your momma's house on pittsburgh beating butler, and you were wrong so now your mother is gonna be homeless." See the difference?

Meh......part of putting yourself out there & saying "these are my picks" is creating bragging rights.

Every time you pronounce your guy to be the next big thing, you're setting yourself up for possible scrutiny.

Especially the guys with the "I'm right, you're wrong" attitude before any of these guys even play an NBA game.

Agreed, these are 2 players that should fill in our needs and we would probably have a very good chance of attaining these 2 players with our pick and i'd probably add Brandon Knight to fold aswell.

I see Kemba as an undersized combo-guard who will have trouble guarding opposing SGs/PGs. That doesn't mean I don't think he'll fill up the points column.

Official Raptors 2011 NBA Draft Thread, Part 5

Post#1460 » by Prestige » Thu Mar 31, 2011 9:14 pm

If you make a bold statement that a certain player is going to be a bust or a star, people have every right to rag on you later on if you prove to be way off. You can't make the excuse that the draft is unpredictable. Nobody asked you to make those predictions. And if you don't stick by your words and own up to it, why should anybody listen to you in the future?

Dr.Mufasa is taking this the right way. He was wrong and he knows it, he even made fun of himself a little. Heck, Chad Ford is still made fun of for hyping up Darko and its been nearly a decade.
