Wiz Fan Here On Crawford

Post#1 » by dlts20 » Thu Mar 31, 2011 9:52 pm

I see you guys and other Hawks boards continuing to have a big internal debate about him or the trade, so I will give you my honest assesment.

1st of all as a Wiz fan I really liked the trade for us for obvious reasons. I thought Crawford was a good chip but to me he wasnt a huge deal. Just a young guy who you see if you can use for the future. So far though he has been a huge surprise for Wiz fans.

Honestly, IDK what it is but he seems like he has a better FG% then he does although I have been drifting from our games some recently and skimming through the scoring on my DVR replays. His J is inconsistent which lowers his percentage. However, his driving ability is great. He's got very good one on one moves, plays well with & without the ball, while having some crazy type of MJ/Dr J type hang time where he makes alot of remarkable finishes around the hoop.

I think the #1 thing that has shocked Wiz fans is his passing ability. He's an excellent passer. The funny thing is that his shooting percentage & shot attempts as a starter makes him look like the ultimate chucker which most would lable him as but if you really watch our games then you will see that he's a very willing passer. You also have to remember that he's playing like over 40mpg with us right now because of our injuries so its adding to his shot attempts.

The fact is that since he's been here, weve basically been without Young, Howard, Lewis, & Blatche pretty much the whole time. That explains alot of his things probably positively & negativley. Most people think that he's doing things because he's on a bad team but he still wouldnt be doing nearly as much right now if we had all our guys but we dont. Those guys are like 4 of our top 5 scorers. He's like our go to scorer besides Wall with all those guys out.

If we had all our guys then he would be a 6th man. His shooting percntage would go up with other scorers on the floor but obviously his numbers & minutes would come down. So far the Wiz fans really like him and I think most see him as the perfect 3rd guard because he can score real quick off the bench, can genuinely play both guard spots, has the size to play the combo, and is a really good passer. I could see us resigning Young this offseason and going with Wall, NY, & Craw as our 3 guard rotation in the backcourt where he would get like 20-32mpg depending on how much NY also backs up at the 3 spot.

Actually, watching him play Im going to say something that might would really shock you but I could see him being the starting PG for your team and doing well at it. I never thought he had it in him but he can play PG with his handles & passing ability, espically if you guys are going to have scorers at nearly every other position and run the O through JJ alot anyways. He's not pure at it but he can definitly backup there and start there on certain teams and I think your team & system is one of them where he could, atleast to stay as good as you are now. Obviously you may want a Paul or something to go to the next level but I dont think you guys would lose anything with him being your starter.

The bottom line is the book isnt written on him yet & it could still go either way. One thing that gives me hope for him is his attitude. He plays fearless and isnt intimdated by anyone. He's got real good chemistry with Wall and both of them play well together because of the way they can both run, handle the rock, score, and pass so well. He could end up being a combo guard chucker but he has the skills to be alot better.

PS- How's Kirk doing? Alot of people didnt know this but at the time we traded him he was probably our most consistent player this season, along with NY. He played alot better then his numbers and they were solid. There's still always a debate with him on wether he's a true PG or not and has his D slipped some or not but he was money. It was sad to watch sometimes because his IQ was so far above the rest of our team. If we didnt have Wall and he didnt overdribble alot then people wouldve loved him to death but with us he was always going to be the 2 or a backup so he wasnt needed, espically on a rebuilding team

Hes a chucker.
Is it to much to ask for a team that plays hard and cares? Seems so.

Letting Jordan Crawford get away is now the second biggest gaffe the Hawks have made this century.

Drafting Marvin Williams is still #1.
