Phil's joke: Ratliff shooting techs

Post#1 » by Mamba Venom » Fri Apr 1, 2011 7:18 am

Loved that Phil had Theo shoot the techs.

It was a message to the Mavs that the Lakers don't need 2 more points to close the deal
And it was funny as hell. It disarmed the situation. Even Joey Crawford was laughing.

I don't think I've ever seen anything like that. The only thing that could have topped that was if we still had Shaq.

I believe the Mavs' coach chose someone from the Lakers side to shoot the techs because Blake was ejected.

Yea.. I didn't think for a second Phil chose Theo. Hell, you're not even allowed to choose a guy off the bench to shoot or any time we had tech FTs we'd go to Kobe/Fish even if they were on the bench.

Blake got the shooting foul, but he got himself ejected, so the opposing team gets to choose any player on the team to shoot the FTs.

Whenever a player get hurt or ejected and cannot shoot freethrows, the opposing team can choose ANY player to shoot freethrows for that person.

THAT IS CORRECT!

The origianal poster may have just forgotten this obscure rule.

I think it is a lame rule, they should have to at least pick someone who is on the Floor at the time (not on the bench).

I would have liked to win by 30... (LOL)

Actually, Phil did have Shaq shoot a technical once. And he hit it!

That was during that one or two month stretch where Shaq was solid from the line.

If Phil had a choice, he'd choose Mark Cuban to shoot the technical

Rick should have picked Luke to shoot the FTs. When Walton goes to the stripe the Lakers actually LOSE points regardless of whether or not he hits the shot. Jokes on Carlisle.
