"Are we better without [the guy who we obviously are not better without]" threads are simply a piece of the history here; the cultural bedrock that gives our lives context and relevance.

But ironically, the origins of these threads was about a player who we are actually better without.

I'm not saying they are better without Wall but they are definitely better off without Gil. To bad they didnt trade him when he had real value. I never thought the was the guy to build around.

I just wondered over to the Orlando thread. It's not pretty.

Spoken aloud, this post reminds me of Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins. Does DVD (his mates call him "D-Van-D," pronounced DeVandy, to spare him embarrassment) follow basketball? Did chimney sweeps use the word "structurally" 100 years ago? These are real questions.

It's obvious that we're better off without the present incarnation of Gil.

But where we differ is the notion that the Wiz would have been better off without the preinjury Gil.

Wall has to do a lot more for me to believe that he'll be half the player that Gil was.

Sorry.....

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

If he learns to play defense, that would already be half the player that Gilbert was...

If you think of the NBA as a circus to entertain fans and sell stuff to kids, then absolutely Gil was the king. A lot of people on this board seem to look at misc. players and say "I like that player - but I don't think you win a championship with him." Gil is that prototypical guy - love to watch him play - could never win a championship with a guy like him. Gil was one of my favorite players ever and he absolutely energized the Wizards. But it doesn't matter whether Wall will ever have the raw skills of Gil, he already has shown me at least that he cares more about team winning goals than Gil ever did.

Leadership - advantage Wall
End to End Speed - advantage Wall
Mental toughness - I'm liking Wall here also
Leaps - advantage Wall. Wall will chase you do and block your shot even.
PG Skills - I think Gil was under ratted here as a passer but Wall is the more pure PG - Adv Wall
Willingness to try to play D - advantage Wall
Ability to drive, finish and get fouled - Tie

And he is just a rookie

Ego and center stage presence - Adv Gil but Wall has some of that in him
Dagger ability - Wall is not afraid to step up but Gil did it more. Wall has had less opportunities.
3 ball range - adv Gil

Wall will be a better player than Gil. He already is in most categories.

Wall and Craw will be better than Gil and Hughes. Plus they have Nick.

Add a stud SF to this team and it will be better than anything we had seen with Gil on it.
