Suns playoff mathematics

Post#1 » by jazzy_jeff » Sun Apr 3, 2011 6:10 pm

They're saying on ABC that a loss today elimates the Suns, but as I can tell they can still win their last 6 to get to 43 which could tie the Hornets, and they would have tiebreak against them with the better head-to-head mark.

Yes, I know it's nothing more than mathematics, but I think the Suns are still alive even with a loss

Naw, they're mathematically eliminated. I had an NBA fanatic math teacher run the numbers. It's over.

They have the tiebreaker over us because they beat us in our season series. It's over.

Well, there's only 3:30 minutes left in NO, and the Hornets are up 11, so this might all be moot very soon.

But, it's simple, if PHoenix and NO both finish 43-39, it goes to tiebreaker, which is record in head-to-head games, and the Suns would win, because they will have theoretically beaten the Hornets on Friday to take the season series 2-1

I'm pretty sure NO is leading the series 2-1, so the tiebreaker would come down to conference record even if we won Friday. Not that it matters anymore...
