Knicks fan here, How much does Amar'e turn it on in the P.Os
I'm just curious how much Amar'e turns it on in the playoffs, considering he averaged 37 ppg, his 3rd year in the season against Duncan..
Does he also rebound better and play defense a bit more?

Nope, he only "turned it on" because we gave him the ball more and forced him to score and look what happened, we got DOMINATED by the Spurs in that series. Amar'e couldn't stop a fat kid from getting to the fridge.

In all fairness I for one think he elevates his game in the Playoffs. Unfortunately in true Amar'e fashion it's not terribly noticeable on defense or on the boards, but I feel like he's a guy you really can go to in a pinch on offense when things are getting stagnant in those Playoff games.

He averaged 6 rebounds per game in 16 playoff games last season.

He usually tries harder in playoffs that for sure.

As annoying as that is it works for him since he was always at the top of the league in and ones.

Amare definitely plays with much more intensity in the playoffs, but that isn't necessarily always a good thing. As I am sure you are aware, Amare tends to not pass out of double teams and has a habit of bowling into players trying to get a circus shot up, that selfish style of play can wreck the offensive flow of Mike D's system. Foul trouble is also a distinct possibility with his increased aggressiveness and refs usually don't swallow the whistle for Amare on the defensive end. Amare will always be a sub-par defender, but he does try a bit harder in the playoffs.
Also, he does have a habit to run his mouth during the playoffs which can fire up the other team. Just see him calling Odom "lucky" last year as an example.
Anyways, good luck to the Knicks.

He has shown the ability to make clutch plays but he definitely gets worse on defense (and rebounding) and he hasn't shown all that much in the playoffs for a while.

Re: Knicks fan here, How much does Amar'e turn it on in the P.Os
I will say this for Amar'e in general.
He is so much of a rhythm offensive player it's almost hysterical. Meaning.. if he's not in the rhythm and ebb and flow of the offense and he's getting the ball in rhythm off pick and rolls and pick and pops, meaning if the ball is stagnant on offense and he gets it after his man has rotated on defense and picked him up, he can't produce that well.
However if you get him involved early and often he can be great like in game 3 against the Lakers where he had 42 and 11 I believe.
It's frustrating yet exhilarating with Amar'e. I truly believe he needs a center like Kendrick Perkins next to him for him to mask his deficiencies on the defensive side of the ball.
Good luck to the Knicks in the playoffs. Would love to see you play the Heat in the first round.

So many haters in here.
Amare is a BEAST in the playoffs. We would have got swept by Portland in the 1st rd last year if we didn't have Amare.
Even in the Laker series he faced constant double and triple teams.
He is a little better defensively in the playoffs but his rebounding is worse.

Re: Knicks fan here, How much does Amar'e turn it on in the P.Os
Amare put up some of his worst playoff numbers since his rookie year where he put up 14/8. For a guy averaging 23/9 in the regular season, 22/6.6 is not stepping up. We might have got swept last season if we didn't have Amare. But Amare wasn't even our best player in the playoffs last season. Our best player was JRich.
Also, outside of that 42/11 game, he was kept in check pretty well by the Lakers front court as well. Also in a 7 game series, Amare's defense was so exposed it would've been funny to watch if he wasn't a Sun.

It's amazing.
He doesn't even play for us anymore and we still have people who will bash him and people who will raise him up.
Stoudemire might just be the polarizing player the Suns ever had.

Simple. He looks to outscore his matchup (which he does), but ultimately gets his ass kicked on the defensive end. Like someone above said, he can average, my guess, 30 and 6 whereas his matchup would be doing 25 and 12.
On second thought, maybe not. He's going against Chris Bosh who kind of sucks so...

STAT is still one of my favourite players despite his obvious weaknesses, but those are the facts. He hasn't stepped up in the playoffs for a while. We're not even talking about dominating, just stepping up.

2010 Playoffs: 22ppg/6.6rpg/52%
Seemed to pick it up points/rebounds-wise but FG% dipped a bit in first playoffs during SSOL. Last two years was slightly better in the regular season than playoffs. He dominates some specific games, like last year's Game 3 against the Lakers. Too bad he didn't do **** the rest of the series, or we may have won.
We'll see what happens this year.

Re: Knicks fan here, How much does Amar'e turn it on in the P.Os
Thanks guys, I was just wondering because with this Knicks team, they ALWAYS seem to step it up against the better teams, Melo usually plays excellent D, but Amar'e I really haven't noticed if he had a "second gear" for defense like Melo seems to have when he needs it. I was giving Amar'e the benefit of the doubt because he's usually undersized, but I was just wondering if he did have the second gear in the playoffs. Anyways, thanks Suns fans, I appreciate it.

Re: Knicks fan here, How much does Amar'e turn it on in the P.Os
The Lakers and Blazers really took Stat out of the offense forcing other players to beat them instead and aside from the Lakers series that turned out pretty well for the team. Also Amare has trouble with length especially with Odom, Gasol and Bynum all in there he can't really finish like he wants to so his offensive stats weren't that great last season. There is no way however that he couldn't have rebounded at least 8-9 rebounds a game.
