Nice!

I doubted they would do it, but I'm happy to see them put that fight in such a big spot. Without a season of TUF to back it, no less.

Bad news is we probably have to wait quite a while for Jones vs. Evans now. I had just kind of assumed it would be on this card. The next card is August 27(ish) in Brazil; it won't be on that. I guess I wouldn't be surprised if a late July/early August card pops up...or they could throw it on this and make this card totally stacked .

Oh...and I thought Tito retired via twitter? Has that been debunked? I didn't really care enough to find out.

Not nec bad. Give him someone young and hungry. I'm not interested in Penn as a contender but hell yeah as a guy with whom to make interesting match-ups. Give him a striker. It's been a while.

Can't say I'm too broken up about not being able to see Jon Fitch fight.

I think Condit is already booked in a fight with Dong-Hyun Kim. Would be easy enough to get out of if they wanted to go in that direction though.

As far as I know, Kampmann should be free, and I'd like to see that fight.

Those are about the only guys I can think of that would make sense. Maybe Rumble? That would be weird though.

I think Kampmann needs a step down in competition. I think he's as legit as can be, but he needs to build up his name a bit against some guys he should beat. Two tough losses in a row.

Condit, Lytle, Ebersole, Kos (if available)... Rumble works too.

Thiago Alves is getting ready to fight Rick Story on an undercard. Yank Alves off that and lets see him and BJ bang it out.

Rumble Johnson is also an option. As he would get a big boost to a title shot if he can beat BJ.

Somehow I don't see Penn vs. Ebersole happening. Penn would probably rather retire than take a fight with a guy like that. Lytle is probably in the same boat, but at least he is a recognizable name.

I'd be cool with a fight with Alves if they chose to go in that direction. Not the greatest fit schedule wise though, as Alves and Story could already be training.

Koscheck would be a good replacement, but I haven't heard anything about him being ready to come back.

Uh huh. What are the talking points going to be? That BJ's done coasting on talent, now he's 100% dedicated to training? For the 8th Countdown in a row?

People bought it the last 7 times. Like it or not, BJ is a draw and the UFC has done well with cards he has headlined. Does he deserve to headline based on recent perfor, mences? Maybe not. But, he puts on exciting fights and people love to watch him.

Of his three straight no-win streak: the winner of his last fight got a title shot + he was moving up. The previous two were for title shots. There was something to talk about.

The next one...? Explain how to hype it. Him against Alves, let's say. What's the upshot for Penn's motivation? He's had three poor performances in a row and he has no remarkable motivation left. How does a Countdown promise a good fight?

Isn't Faber/Cruz the main event on this card? BJ/Alves as the co-main event to a title fight sounds like a pretty top heavy card to me.

the card is filling out very nicely!

Dominick Cruz vs. Urijah Faber [BW title]
B.J. Penn vs. TBA
Wanderlei Silva vs. Chris Leben
Ryan Bader vs. Tito Ortiz
Melvin Guillard vs. Shane Roller
Evan Dunham vs. George Sotiropoulos
Matt Wiman vs. Dennis Siver

it may have been mentioned already, but hopefully we get two free Spike fights as well. 8-)

Jesus. Wow, that's an insane card. And big money guys too.

But why are they wasting the Guillard fight giving him Roller? Roller looked ridiculous in his last fight. With Guillard's speed and reflexes + a technical team behind him, it's not competitive.

Agree about Roller/Guillard... Roller didn't look too great in his last fight.
