Thanks Rhett, thanks. I almost had this guy blocked from my memory and you brought it all back.

Wow, hopefully BC just ignores anything he has to say.

Hahaha, I feel a caption contest coming on...

Oh yeah, and from Chad Ford's latest draft blog:

Duke's Kyrie Irving is expected to declare for the draft soon according to sources. Arizona's Derrick Williams is also leaning strongly that direction. Ditto for Perry Jones, Walker, Terrence Jones and Jordan Hamilton.

• On the other side, Ohio State's Jared Sullinger says he's returning to school. North Carolina's Harrison Barnes, as we've been reporting for months, is also seriously considering returning for his sophomore year. North Carolina's John Henson, Knight and Texas' Tristan Thompson also are considering returning to school. Given the weakness in the draft, GMs are seriously wringing their hands right now. Losing Sullinger and Barnes at the top, along with Henson, Knight and Thompson in the lottery would take an already weak draft and make it even weaker.

My only concern is Barnes, that's the one guy that needs to declare. I'm not worried about Henson, Knight or Thompson since we'll most likely be drafting ahead of where they are projected to be picked.

Yeah, I feel that way too (though Sullinger would have been nice to pad out the top 5 too, I've accepted that he's going back). Honestly, I'll be pretty shocked if Barnes declares at this point...but I'm trying to cling to some hope.

May as well parcel out the disappointment gradually, right?

Ideally Barnes declares just for more selection and the possibility we take him, but if he's not there, it'll open up the possibility of P3 who I agree is a SF with no big man characteristics at all (which is what most of the criticism he receives is about - he's not a big man, which is crazy when you think about it because the kid knows he's not and insists he's a SF but wasn't used as one at Baylor), as well as Kanter who intrigues me a lot. Then there's a guy like Valanciunas who I'm not as high on but everyone else here seems to be so I'll trust everyone's opinion and wouldn't be mad if he was selected either.

I can only speak for Derrick, but I can assume that Barnes is in a similar situation.

Derrick has not made a decision. He will have a meeting with his family, his HS coach and Arizona's staff and decide some point in the next week or two. All the media speculation is just speculation on what people think they will do, not what they are actually planning.

I mean, I stil think everyone declares, but the media is saying some things that are unfounded.

Anyways, on twitter ed davis wrote to D will saying he should come out (something along those lines). Not that twitter conversations mean anything but it got me thinking about who the players on our team (the ones that matter, DD, Ed), would want our team to draft. Any ideas?

I'm guessing both would want a heavy duty C to make their lives easier next season.

every team wishes they could get a centre. This draft and next years draft will have absolutely no legit C's anyways.
2013 draft will be a beast year for centres though.

For those interested, here's a list of those who have already declared and those that are returning along with the 50/50 crowd. Snagged from another board:

he will likely be in the 2013 draft (no earlier than that). He has the most potential but its all dependant on him continuing to grow. I believe he is only 6'8-6'9 now, but is projected to get taller.
Regardless, that class has 3 other legit centres who could be stars.
isaiah austin is incredible and already legit 7 feet (and growing). However, he isn't thick and doesnt play as an ideal C.

Another guy to keep on from the 2013 highschool class (2014 draft) is Aaron Gordon.

Next year's draft is going to be stacked.

Anthony Davis, a 6-foot-10, 200 pound forward from Chicago has been the talk of the town for months. But at the McDonald's game -- both in practices and in the game itself -- he solidified his spot as the guy to beat for the No. 1 spot in the draft in 2012.

Davis has an unusual story. He was 6-foot-2 going into his junior year of high school -- a point guard. But a crazy growth spurt added 8 inches to his stature. Many kids get clumsy or awkward when their body grows that fast. Not Davis. He's rail thin, but still demonstrates the quickness, ballhandling and shooting abilities of a guard.

But it gets better. Sometimes those 6-foot-10 guards in a big man's body are the bane of an NBA scout's existence. They want their big men to rebound and block shots. That's where they are most valuable to a NBA team. Davis, is doing that as well. He's an aggressive rebounder, a big-time shot blocker and isn't afraid to dunk over people. In other words, he's the best of both worlds. Scouts are almost uniformly comparing him to a young Kevin Garnett.

Davis will be playing at Kentucky next year, and if he can live up to potential, he should be the odds on favorite for the No. 1 pick in 2012.

Austin Rivers, son of Doc Rivers, may have the most complete game of any guard in the country. His high basketball IQ and killer instinct are super appealing. But his lack of size for his position and lack of explosive athleticism (he's a good, but not an elite athlete) may lower his ceiling a bit. Rivers will head to Duke sitting at No. 2 on our 2012 Big Board.

Michael Gilchrist (committed to Kentucky), Bradley Beal (committed to Florida), James McAdoo (committed to North Carolina) and Myck Kabongo (committed to Texas) also drew a lot of praise from scouts as potential lottery picks in 2012.

Is Roy Williams screwing us over?

UNC's Harrison Barnes continues to be on the fence however. He recently had his exit interview with head coach Roy Williams. In the interview Williams told Barnes that he would go somewhere between No. 5 and 11 in the draft, according to a source familiar with the discussion. I think Barnes will go higher -- likely in the Top 3. The bigger question will be whether Barnes wants to return to a loaded UNC team next year to try to win a championship.

every draft is supposed to be stacked until it actually comes close to happening. When everyone is in highschool, its easy to say that they will all be stars. 2012 isnt particular amazing.

The main thing that makes a draft good is surefire superstars. Although it appears that there are none in this draft, or next years; these type of players usually develop above the rest in college, so we'll see.

Wow...nice find! All of the guys mentioned are high energy guys that like the ball in their hands. Kemba's going right to the Hall.

EDIT: Quiz: Which of the guys mentioned won the NCAA tournament? (Hint: i think the two MJ's did at least)

There's very little decent video on Anthony Davis available. Most I've seen on Youtube is just him dunking over 6'5" high school centers in transition.

I think Gilchrist falls a bit throughout the year.
His tenacious 1 on 1 D won't be utilized as much as it could be under Cal. Furthermore, he isn't a great 3 shooter.
Kentucky also has a lot of other guys who needs shots.

Return to Toronto Raptors
