OT: Malware Vista Total Security

Post#1 » by Cool-Hand-Luke » Tue Apr 5, 2011 8:40 pm

Just thought I would give you all a heads up. Was surfing the site at work (using vista) and got some sort of Malware called Vista Total Security. Was tough to get rid of. Anyone else have the same thing happen?

If you have Firefox, use "Noscript" and if you have Chrome, there is an app called "Notscript". Both of these will prevent any sort of script from running without you giving it permission to.

You'll want to run Malwarebytes. But it might not let you.

Otherwise, I fixed a computer with this yesterday using System Restore. Easy as pie.

Im sorry but this site doesnt take this issue seriously at all. Malware is always on this site and we even had a mod retire for a while because he was tired of all the malware and the viruses. If avatars are the problem then ban them or put in a rule allowing people to only load them from sites like imageshack or imugr.

Other sites dont have this problem. This is the biggest basketball board on the internet. Its 2011 guys. This shouldn't be happening.

I got some malware from here a few weeks ago that wrecked some files on my computer (including a report I was working on :x). It was easy to fix, but I couldn't recover the report. I was using FF Beta 4 with Avast and Ad-Aware for security.

yup i got this as well on my home computer and it was a pain in the butt to remove. if realgm is the reason then it solves the mystery because i'm pretty careful about where i navigate and what i download, so i couldn't for the life of me figure out how i got the spyware on my system.

i also noticed that if i try bookmarking the site on my work computer, whatever security i have here purges the bookmark saying it is not a safe site. i don't have this problem with any other sites that i bookmark.

Im pissed! My laptop got this virus, i tried cleaning it out and following directions online and to no avail. It doesnt stop there though cause my desktop PC now has the same bloody virus. Any advice would be appreciated. Ive tried the system restore but it wont even let me do that. Ive tried using RKILL and then installing the malware anti virus program but that wouldnt open up for me neither

I dont have flash player at work, and the gifs usually dont work... we have a security guard that blocks sites that are possibly dangerous, but it doesnt block realgm... is that still risky? I'm a member of the supervisory board so it would be kinda embarrassing if i get a virus or something on my pc. All i do there is surf these boards.

This has been driving me insane. I have Malwarebytes Anti-Malware installed, but even if I would run the scan and remove it, the same Vista Security thing would pop up again, causing me to run the scan and remove it again. I lost count on how many times I got it this month, never has been a problem before. I am going to take the suggested methods to prevent this, but it's still very odd this site hasn't fixed the problem. On numerous occasions I would be surfing RealGm, then BAM! That stupid fake Vista thing would pop up.

Get Ad-Block with Firefox as well. I think the ads can give you malware as well. I picked up my malware while running FF Beta 4, so i didn't have Ad-Block at the time.

This virus is getting on my nerves, ive spent all day trying to take it off. It wont let me open anything on my computer so programs like malware anti virus and search and destroy wont work.

I usually surf on sandboxie, which allows you quarantine specific programs that you want to run. Plus I'm also usually running some type of NoScript & AdBlocker. So, if there is some type of malware, it will get delete when I terminate my session.

If the malware is already on your computer and it won't let install anti-malware or AV on your computer, you can try running it from a DVD.

Add me to the infected list. It's not letting me run any programs (like Malware Bytes or any internet browser). The last time this happened to me it was really simple for me to remove as I could use the internet and Malware Bytes, but now I'm not sure how to get rid of it.
