WCW had decent ratings when they went under but they were losing money like crazy (they were in the early 90s too, but didn't have the overhead like they had in the late 90s), I think the main killer was that Turner sold and the new ownership weren't interested anymore, if Turner wasn't around WCW would have gone under in 1991

creatively, I think they lost their edge when they started to try and copy WWF Attitude, they had a good formula going but insisted on doing skits and sitcom monologues just like WWF was doing, which made them look second rate

That was an easy fix though. Just stop giving out guranteed contracts. Like I said, when the merger happened there wasn't a lot of interest in wrestling and when Jaime Kellner took over he wanted it gone. If the new ownership had an interest, they could've restructured WCW and it could've survived.

I think that's one of several creative mistakes they made, although they were losing when they started copying the Attitude era.

I was watching The Rise and Fall of WCW last night and I think Big Show was the one talking about how Kevin Nash and Scott Hall got in their contract that on top of their big salary, if someone came in getting more money, they would needed to be matched.
