Re: OT: Job vs. Grad School

Post#1241 » by knicks82023 » Wed Apr 6, 2011 2:13 am

I'd say it's better to get a job then go for the MBA. As another poster said, you will get more out of it. Plus, you may be able to find a job that will pay for some (or all) of the MBA program. Have you tried using a headhunter?

What is it that you are looking to do for a job btw?

As for MBA programs, I'd say there is definitely a difference in going to Wharton vs your average program, but as far as the difference between something like Brandeis and Rutgers (or any of the other middle of the pack schools), I wouldn't say there's much of a difference. Before I get ripped into, I'm actually looking into Rutgers and Drexel, so I'm not putting down these schools, just saying they are more so the second tier of schools, whereas your schools like Wharton are tier 1.

That is definitely true.

But that makes it even more ridiculous. It's usually the right who calls the left communist, as if it is the worst thing in the world.

However, conservative policies are really more communist than liberal, when you break them down into theory.

A pillar of communism is continuing class revolution. This comes from heightened disparities in wealth among the classes.

So really, social programs and lower taxes on lower earning families advocated by the left are anti-communist. While conservative policies that widen the gap between the classes support communist theory.

I always had some slight trouble fully differentiating these certain systems. A quick synopsis of both communism and socialism and nationalism would be highly appreciated. Thank you.

Absolutely, I'll do my best.

Socialism is public ownership of the means of production and production based on human need as opposed to private profit. However, when a person calls himself a socialist over communist, he is usually a socialist in a less authoritarian fashion--not necessarily believing in violent overthrow of the state. But rather the overcoming of capitalism through established democratic means.

So socialism is really the idea of ruling by the working class. Socialists will try and accomplish this through normal means, like a legislator, or the legislature, ect… and run the government in a normal fashion, but with the benefit of "the people" in mind. However, socialism can also refer to any alternative to capitalism.

Communism says socialism is the transitional phase between communism and capitalism. Socialism is a period of state ownership of the means of production. Pure communism is the point where the state has developed the means of production and taught the working class how to operate as a unified force to the point where the state no longer needs to exist and withers away. So that workers' communes are what effectively run the society.

Nationalism is a strong allegiance to one's nation. When people put their nation above their politics, class, ect...

you can defer for a year or two right? it's no guarantee you'll even find something in that year but it doesn't sound like you're too enthusiastic about grad school anyway.

Look into federal jobs...

www.usajobs.gov

look for an Economist or Statistician position starting at a GS-7....you qualify with a econ degree and 0 experience....

great entry level pay.....large raises for the first few years.....great benefits.....and they may even pay for your grad school(in full!)......

the application process is relatively easy(no need for a cover letter)....and you can apply for literally dozens of jobs......which I would recommend.......it won't hurt your credibility at all.......

there are federal jobs across the country....not just DC.....

trust me.....just apply today...you just need a resume.......you'll be thankful you did....

Do NOT buy them from scalpers outside the garden. That's a good way to spend a lot of money on a worthless piece of paper that looks like a Knicks ticket but won't get you into a Knicks game.

well give yourself until may 1st to find one and if you can't maybe you should just go. did you apply to other schools? if you don't have a backup plan like traveling or something, there is a chance that you might have to wind up doing nothing for a while. 3 weeks isn't a lot of time to find something but otherwise you are taking a risk of possibly just waiting around- it's up to you.

Sounds to me that neither is necessarily negative. I always knew people were idiots and tried to put these two systems in a bad light. Why don't we move towards being a socialist country then? Also I wanted to know: Is this really a democracy? The people seem to have absolutely little say in any of the countries decisions. I spoke to my dad about this and he said that there was a situation where when Hilary CLinton was elected NY's Senator, and while they were voting whether to go to war she received many calls from people urging her to vote against the US going into Iraq and she instead voted for it. Shouldn't it be like when their is always huge decision to make we the people vote for it and the true majority wins? Rather than what the person who represents us thinks?

atribe: On paper, these two systems work excellently. It's just that ever since post-WW2 and the everlasting Cold War, we as Americans have been trained to hate the Commies. At the same time, it's hard to support Communism with the examples we've seen throughout history...

Robert Randolph: Take back his EMMY!!! Cursed the Knicks

Post#1258 » by Crawfulllr » Wed Apr 6, 2011 6:25 am

This Mans Friday night knicks has brought nothing but misery to the knicks all season. The song is CURSED, has cost the knicks about 10 straight games and on top of it he wins an Emmy. This mans Emmy needs to be taken back.

Whenever the knicks would go on a run, I would hear that song going to commercial break and knew it was a lost cause. Friday night knicks is doomed.
