Bynum or Dwight?

Post#1 » by robg146 » Thu Apr 7, 2011 5:32 am

sorry, don't know if this was asked before....but i would like people's opinions.....my friend and i are always arguing over who is the better player...i say bynum...he says dwight.....i believe bynum to be a better rebounder, better shooter/scorer (when he gets the ball).....and i believe he has the same defensive capabilities....and that he has more post moves than dwight......i'm pretty confident bynum is a better pure post big man........

i just want to see bynum put together a full season and avg 12-15 pts and 12-15 rbs a game. until then Dwight will always have the durability over bynum and that shyt goes a long way

you should be slapped for saying bynum is better than howard. he's leading a team full of absolute cans to the 4th seed in the east and is in contention for MVP. forget about stats (where he also surpasses bynum), howard is just better in every aspect of the game. idk why you think bynum has a better post game, most of his points come off of putbacks/being set up by kobe/pau. howard pretty much creates all of his shots, while also drawing double teams on a regular basis. bynum might have better footwork, but not ability to score in the paint..... im not even gonna continue to humor this thread.

just think about it like this, what bynum has done for the past 17 games, howard has been doing the ENTIRE season with gilbert arenas and hedo turkoglu as two of his primary playmakers.

not even gonna touch the health issue.

no one likes us lakers fans because we say things like "bynum is better than howard."

i have no problem with your opinion, but i still retain the right to ridicule it if its ridiculous.

i apologize if you think i was rude to you, that wasnt my intention. but cmon man, think about what kind of threads youre going to start and if you dont want to hear differing opinions, why are you on the internet?

where is there even a debate? its clear who is the best NOW, potential means nothing at this point when you compare the two...people like to say Bynum is a "pure" center, back to the basket type, but whats so great bout that? He doesn't really post up to get others easy shots, his lack of hops gets his shot blocked easiy, like the game against Minn, Jefferson barely had to jump to block Bynum 2-3 time straight up and really Bynum only has 2-3 post move, his jump hook, his other jump hook to bank of the glass. Neither one of these guys can handle double team very well either though, Howard turns the ball over often and so would Bynum if he was the focal point of the offense. To be honest these 2 guys wouldn't even be top 5 C back in the 90's when we had better quality C's.

Dwight is arguably the best player in the league now, Bynum is not close IMO

Dwight wins this handily but I'll make some points for Andrew Bynum. In a 1v1 match-up Bynum can hold his own especially he's got a significantly bigger body than Dwight. Dwight's game can get stifled when he's playing against size and Dwight really can't score that well outside of his point-blank comfort zone or at the line. A healthy and well-conditioned Bynum can single cover the potential MVP.

If Bynum was the no.1 option for a team I think he could average some gaudy stats. People underrate just how much talent and how much of a size/talent advantage he has in this league. Its also underrated that he's playing a role on a defending champion team so his stats won't be that great especially with options like Bryant, Gasol, and Odom. However Dwight Howard has been one hell of a durable workhorse that seems to be made out of steel and iron since he doesn't miss any games and plays a ton of minutes without a back up center whereas Bynum's been injury prone and has talented 7 footers to help him out. I've been disappointed in Dwight's mental toughness, decision making (turnovers/assists), free throw shooting, and lack of a consistent jumper but he's got plenty of time to improve and Bynum's got plenty of areas to work on as well.

^^^for whatever reason Bynum FT shooting has been pretty crappy as of late, although he has way better form that Howard, Bynum is starting to miss at the same rate as Howard now.

Howard. Though if I were Orlando and wanted to trade him, I'd want Bynum over anyone else in the League

Dwight. Bynum has better footwork and a bigger offensive arsenal, but Dwight has grown a lot this year and his lack of what Bynum has doesn't stop him from finishing 60% of his FGA with the other team's entire defense focused on him.

Also though Bynum has improved by leaps and bounds in his effort, rebounding, and defense post-ASB, Dwight is still superior in all those aspects of the game. And Dwight would be a better fit on this team in every single way.

Easiest question I've ever been asked. Howard by leaps and bounds. *waits for So Gutta to come in and show his blind love for Bynum*
